Hi Everyone,

So I have concerns about my boyfriend's dog. He is an 8yo castrated Chow mix. The boyfriend has had him for 2 years. The 2 years before that he lived in a no-kill shelter. He was a cage chewer. The owners before that had him briefly and took him to the shelter because he needs to be "the only dog" in the house. The owners before that fed him nothing but hot dogs and left him outside all the time. The dog had heart problems when he was given to the shelter the last time. Went through atrial fibrillation. He is not on any meds at the time.

Okay, so with that history (haha), here is the problem. In the last year or so this dog has developed some of the worst separation anxiety ever. And it gets progressively worse. He chews through kennels, doesn't respond to mild sedatives (like Clomicalm), has been through very aggressive training with a behaviorist, has tried to commit suicide by ripping off the screen to a window on the 3rd story balcony. (We found him hanging out the window!) We even went to the Argus Center to get counseling. So, at what point does it become a matter of your own well-being? We can't even leave the house anymore without the dog going crazy. Oh, and we recently found out he barks all day too! So I'm hoping some of you out there have some experience with this and can give me some guidance, because we are literally at the end of the road unless someone can tell me some creative option. HELP!

Take him to your local vet.
