I find that I m having the most trouble with behavioral science questions... Especially the "what should you do/say to your patient type of questions.. these type of question IMO are the most tricky bc the answers are less concrete and usually less obvious .

Any advice on approaching these type of questions?? Any good quick sources to read? Any good examples to remember? Behavioral is killing me.. Got my exam on Saturday 🙁

Hmm... I don't have advice but I think you should refrain from discussing the nbme's specifically unless you put a "spoiler alert" in the title of the thread. A lot of people use those for diagnostics and you shouldn't be creating a scenario where they are inadvertently seeing the questions before the test.

BRS behavioral is pretty good and readable in a day or 2. General guideline with those is think about what is the most politically correct response. My rule of thumb was that you pick the response that would piss off the fewest people, not the one that an actual doctor would do.

Quick things to remember, nothing is 100% definite:
1. Never consult
2. Always ask more questions
3. Cheapest test is probably the first one you should do
4. Privacy is sacrosanct unless they are a danger to self or others
5. Same goes for autonomy, unless they are deemed incompetent (which is a legal issue). Drunk people are considered temporarily more or less "incompetent" to make their own decisions.

Always try to pick the answer that is most open ended, which will elicit more information from the patient.

Yea basically answer most of your questions with a question.. Seems like what it came down a lot of the time.
