Berk review Verbal?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Anyone use their verbal?

How is it?

Compared to EK and the AAMCs?

Thanks!

from most reviews it's not very good. The passages are good but the questions lack the tricky MCAT feel. Trust me, I've read every single BR thread on SDN. all the way back to 2002. The Gen Chem and O-chem is the best by far. Physics is good and Bio depends. Lots of people think it's too detailed, it depends on the person.

You said its not good, and then you said Gen Chem and OChem is good on BR. I am confused?

That's a really fair assessment, so thank you. Admittedly, the verbal book is our weak link. There is an updated version coming out in the next few months that incorporates some new lessons and strategies. The passages were the strongest part before, so adding more of those should improve the book to above average.

It hurts to admit it, but as much as proud as I am that our science books are the best anywhere, I have to say that our current verbal is functional at best. The next edition will be a big step up.

I assume he means that BR verbal is not good, but that BR general chemistry and organic chemistry are the best books available for those subjects. It's a pretty universal opinon for anyone who has used the books.

Is BR verbal better than Kaplan?

I just wanted another source to practice with along with the AAMCs and EK verbal.

Kaplan sucks. The questions are too detail oriented.

I just want something decent.

It is without question better than kaplan. I can attest to this as I have the old Kaplan books from a friend and they are way TOO detailed. Their verbal blows, just like it did for SAt Prep. I still plan on using Berkeley Verbal, their passages are great, they're long as you'll see on the real MCAT. Everyone complains that the AAMC ones are a lot shorter. So your timing should be good.

oh and jdub, i pmed BerkeleyReviewTEacher and he said 3 CBTS will be available in March for about 100 dollars. I'm so excited, cuz from all acounts in old threads, numerous people have said that BR tests emulate the exam as well if not better than anyone else. I'm going to try and find their old paper tests. If I remember correctly, BerkeleyReviewTeacher said that the old ones were better value, you should too.

THanks for the info. I really want to see their practice exams.

I hope they will be available then 🙂

I think I am going to order all the books since I am already going to get all the sciences.

Did he happen to mention how they would be available? On a CD or can we just pay with a credit card finally?
