I plan to take classes (Biochemistry and Physiology) online via Berkeley Extention in the spring 2006 semester. I have finished most of my postbac/prereq at a State College. May I have your suggestion and insights as to how to best study for these online courses, whether they are viewed favorably by admission committees, and any pros/cons associated with them. Also, I am given 6 months to complete these courses. If I solely concentrate on these courses, can I expect to complete them within 2 months? I have LORs from my postbacc classes and just want to take these two science classes to best prep for the MCAT and for my own knowledge. I look forward to hearing from those who have taken online courses at Berkeley or elsewhere.

Hi there,
I took several Berkeley Extension classes and thought most of them were really good (biochemistry and neurobiology, in particular). It was mentioned to me that admissions committees prefer in-class courses, rather than online courses, so I took the in-class offerings. The classes meet only once a week, in the evenings, for three hours, so it didn't affect my work schedule at all. However, given that you just want to take them as MCAT prep, rather than as criteria for admissions, it likely wouldn't matter too much if you took them online or in class. Enjoy! 🙂
