Hi,

Has anyone heard about the Berkeley Review Practice Tests? Are they more difficult or more easy than the AAMC ones? Are they representative? Any comments are appreciated. Thanks.

Useless from the aspect that they are very damn hard, unrealistic, and not AAMC MCAT style!

But that is only my own opinion!

i'm taking 1 tomorrow.
i'll get back to you then. ive heard they are very challenging but good practice. duno..

Definitely harder than the aamc tests. I find that after taking TBR tests, it's refreshing to sit through an AAMC test. TBR tests are good at throwing some funky $hit and seeing if you can think through it.

Tests 1-4 aren't too bad...probably a bit harder than the real thing but a good gage of how you will do

5-8 must have been meant to make you feel lowly and sad

The reason I asked was that I took Practice Exam 1 and got a 34 (10,13,11) and this was about 4 points higher than I got on the AAMC 7 when I took that before the last MCAT. So, I was wondering if I got better or if it was an easier test? Thanks.

I felt that test 1 had an insanely easy VR, BS was also on the easy side but not as sweet as VR, and PS was just right. Do your scores reflect the adjusted curves?

Test 3 has a kick-a$$ PS section though. See how you do on that section.

Is anybody currently taking their practice tests? What do you think of them, are they an accurate predictor for real scores?
Thanks

That's not good for me then. I did Test 1 and got a 25 (8 PS, 10 VR, 7 BS). Is it really that good of a predictor of how I will do. I'm worried cuz I got 3 weeks till the actual thing.

The posts in this thread are from 2006, so they are in reference to the paper exams. The CBT exams weren't available until October 2006 (for January 2007 test-takers), so if you are taking the current CBT exams, then those comments are a bit outdated. There are better threads for this buried somewhere in the SDN maze.

The CBT practice exams are sequenced differently than the paper exams and have some new passages that were not on the paper versions, so the comparison doesn't really work.

The feedback I get from current students is that the BR exams are still harder than the real exam, but not in an unrealistic way. They just don't have as many easy questions as the actual test. The weird passages are right on the mark in the WTF factor.

Exam 1 used to be the easiest (in paper form), but it has been updated in terms of difficulty. How much you improve depends on your strengths and weaknesses and your ability to find the type of mistakes you made and correct them. Feedback on Exam 1 is that PS is hard, VR is easy/medium, and BS is hard. The general opinion is that 1, 2, 4, 6, and 8 are pretty right on the mark in terms of all around difficulty. Exams 3, 5, 7, and 9 are butt kickers. Exams 10-12 (given this summer in paper version) are right on the mark in terms of difficulty.

I hope this helps.

where can i get these paper berkeley review mcats?

thanks

Pretty much just eBay. They only sell selected CBT exams through their site. Find a student who actually took the class and see if they'll sell their stuff, because they get about double to triple the materials as the home study books.
