Berkeley Review Psychology

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It was released for home study very recently, so the only people who have used it are BR classroom students. They have averaged over 128 on that section so far, but that is also due to some great teachers in the areas of psychology and sociology. A general comment from students is that they liked the passages and found them realistic.

I'm planing on getting the BR Psychology book. I have used their science books and I find the content very thorough and the practice passages are reflective of AAMC's MCAT passages in terms of their focus on critical thinking. As a result of their excellent reputation, I would expect their psychology book to live up to BR's high standards.

why only psychology and no sociology though?

The last two chapters are a combination of sociology and social psychology. I'm still not sure why they omitted sociology from the title, but I assume it was because the primary author fashions himself as a psychology expert. In all honesty, I'm still not sure where one ends and the other begins in that they cover many of the same concepts and experiments.

Hello Mr. Berkeley Review Teach. Does this mean that a separate sociology book will not be released?

Okay so I dont know if I'm not understanding @BerkReviewTeach correctly or if there is miscommunication going on. In the Preface of the book it states"A companion volume will introduce students specifically to the social science subjects". Meaning this book has little to No sociology, skimming through the book I did not find enough material to recommend it to be used as the sole source to prepare you for this section . So I think they left off the Sociology part because putting it on there would be false advertising .. I am a little bummed, for the money the book cost I expected it to have sociology as well but that's on me for not looking carefully enough . I love this company and its books so I will make the best of it and I am sure this might be the best psychology prep out there. Just wanted to clear things up .. So if you want the best bang for your buck I would get TPR or something else that gives you both the subjects .. But Im a TBR fanboy so I will use this and supplement it with something else

Yea that's kind of a bummer, especially if it contradicts what BerkReviewTeach wrote earlier. The other book sets are $69 so having a price of $49 for the Psych book makes it look like it has sociology in it too. Thanks for clearing things up!

Admittedly, I'm out of the loop in this particular book development. I know for sure that the sociology was not fully done in time for the past summer course and that the best passages were put into the exams and class handouts. If the psychology book states that "a companion volume" is on the way, then my best guess is that they put as much of sociology as they could into the two chapters that overlap with psychology for now and will likely revise the psychology book when the sociology book is ready to go.

I'm selling the complete TBR Berkeley MCAT classroom handouts and notes. ($250) you can only get these notes from taking the prep class.

Isnt this copy written ? And $250 ?? Dam man you really want to take advantage of nervous pre-meds

theyre not copy written. pm me guys. $250 obo.

The copyright mark that appears at the bottom of every page in the class handouts might just indicate differently. Of course that just means you cannot duplicate them or incorporate them into other materials.

The class handouts change each year a little and are slightly different from one center to the next, so it might help your sales efforts if you listed the date you took the class and the location.

Do you have any idea as to when the sociology and/or revised psychology version will be released?

I just ordered the main sets from TBR without the psych/socio stuff. I've heard the Khan Academy stuff is very good and more than enough for that section. Can anyone verify that?

More than enough I wouldnt say that. I saw a few persons say they only used that and did well but the large consensus is getting TPR and combining it with Khan for maximum success!
