Just like the EK Verbal 101 thread, this is a thread to talk about how you're doing with the TBR passages. I don't know how people are generally going through these, but I'm doing Phase I and II after reading the chapter, and saving Phase III for after I finish all content review.

I'm currently working on Gen Chem.

Chapter 1:
Phase I: 27/41 = 66% = 10
Phase II: 10/20 = 50% = 8 (ouch!)

Chapter 2:
Phase I: 29/37 = 78% = 11
Phase II: 28/33 = 85% = 13

So far I LOVE the book. I hated Gen Chem and I'm enjoying reading this and I really feel like it's helping me grasp the topics. Hopefully future chapters will continue this trend...

Now it's up to you guys! Keep this thread alive!

Yeah same, my later chapter scores are in the 70-80s for the most part, and my earlier stuff was 50-60%, I think I even got 0% on one passage haha.

But I've just started to complete the last 1/3 of the earlier chapters and I seem to be doing better than I did the first time around - staying in that 70-80 range.

Equilibrium sucked!!!!!

LOL 0% been there. somtimes you just have to laugh. Spent the last 4-5 hours studying only to not get a single questions correct...there is just somthing about it that makes me laugh. As i start taking more FL ill post my scores. Good luck

Good luck to you too! I'll also be posting my FL scores. I'm taking BR#2 tomorrow, so worried that I'll score lower though, it's supposed to be harder than the first one.

Is it just me, or is BR Gen Chem infinitely harder than BR Ochem and Physics?

It's you...BR physics and bio are significantly harder IMO, but the equilibrium chapter in gen chem is arguably the hardest of any BR chapters.

I'm not looking forward to that punishment exam!

BR FL#2: 32 (11/9/12)

I was surprised by this because I thought I did a lot worse than BR#1 (27). I definitely got lucky on a few BS questions.
Next FL is #3, it's supposed to be the hardest so I'm contemplating on swapping it with #4 just to get in more practice.
The BR verbal is starting to get to me. I really don't like their questions, they seem really weird and nitpicky.

Thats really a great bump in score...im planing on taking FL 2 next week.

My FL 1 was weak (7/11/7) made some bad mistakes but i learned alot. I know its low but im confident i can improve

Did you do anythign special between FL 1 and FL2 to bump you score or just continued following SN2? i am really tempted to start focusing on weak points rather then doing whats comming up on my SN2 sched.

Great job on verbal, and the PS on that test was difficult I got the same score as you. You can definitely improve just takes some practice.

I really didn't do anything special between the tests, just kept on with SN2 schedule of doing the last 1/3 of BR passages. The PS section is a little easier for FL#2, and I got really lucky on the BS section, like I guessed 5 or 7 questions all right it was ridiculous. Yeah it might be a good idea to focus on your weak areas first and really master them, that seems to be the general consensus on this site at least lol. My weak areas are the beginnings of the books (chp 1-5 especially for Gchem Physics and Bio) and I'm doing that right now, it just so happens that it lines up with the last 1/3 of the schedule, but I would have done those first anyway. That way you'll make the most out of your FL's.

I've decided to go ahead with BR#3 tomorrow and I'm just prepping myself for a big drop in score lol

I'm new to the game, but I'll be using BR. I take the test March 23.

So far my scores are:

Physics Ch.1 - 12
Physics Ch.2 - 12
Physics Ch.3 - 10
Physics Ch.7 - 11

I skipped a few chapters because I went out of town for a few days and accidentally took book #2 instead of #1.

I realized it will be better to break up my tests into phases (just learned about that a few days ago) so that I still have material to go over leading up to the test, so I will be doing that from now on.

My only complaint so far is that post-analysis is taking me several hours (approx. 5 hours) to review one 52 question test, but I know it is important so I just truck through it.

Post test is where most of learning is done so taking your time is a good thing. Are you doing one subject at a time? your scores look good so far

I'll post my scores since I started keeping track:

Physics
Chapter 3: 70% 84%
Chapter 4: 76%

Organic
Chapter 2: 72% 85%
Chapter 3: 92%

Biology
Chapter 6: 88%

Chemistry
Chapter 4: 94%

I didn't write down my percentages for the first couple weeks, but they were ~80% +/- 10%. I'm using BR for bio content instead of EK.

Just one subject at a time. I don't have time to do more that that, honestly. The limiting factor in how much I get done is the post-test. Since I can't sit there for 5 hours straight, the analysis, when you factor in breaks and such, takes me about 7 hours, which is almost a full day.

BR FL#3: 29 (10/8/11)

I'm pretty content with this score since it was supposed to be the hardest of all 7. I definitely got lucky again with a few BS questions. I thought the VR of this test was insanely tough, it was a hard kick in the balls lol

Well I'm glad to be done with the "punishment" exam! I'll be taking FL#4 on Wednesday.

I'm totally jealous of your score! Jeeze, BS kicked my butt.

hey guys, how do you think your scores in the to-go passages compare to how you do on the aamc fl or the real deal? I usually get about 70-80% while doing the "to-go" passages - any correlation?

I'll let you know in about a week once I start the AAMC Full Lengths. I have been scoring in a similar range on TBR end of chapter practice passages.

Hey.

I've taken quite a few TBR Verbal passages but they're way easier. Im averaging 50-80% on EK 101 and TPRH but the TBR is like 70-100% consistently. One time I got a 28/28 when I did 3 passages. I notice a lot of questions are pretty much said straight forward in the passages and are way shorter and not as confusing and do not require as close a read as TPR or EK. Should I just stop using the TBR? Is anyone else realizing similar things?

I agree it is super easy compared to EK, but it still seems like getting questions from a variety of sources would be a good idea for VR. If nothing else, you'll get faster at reading passages and answering the gimme questions.

😛 Well it was your first BR FL! This was my third, I'm a well seasoned player by now 😎 hahahah jk I feel like a lot of my answers are guess-work and luck, which is a bit unsettling lol

Dude, just took my second TBR FL, and now I'm truly amazed by anyone scoring 30+ on these exams. Kudos to you! TBR is tearing me apart. This was supposed to be a normal exam. I am strongly considering postponing...Come January 11th, I'll know for sure. Until then, I'll be working hard to improve.

Oh no! I hope you don't have to postpone that would suck. Well, if it makes you feel better I just bombed BR#4 lol! Got a 27 (9/10/8) 🙁, this got me reaallllyy worried cus it wasn't supposed to be too difficult. I don't know what happened, can't wait to review it tomorrow.

Yeah I know! I'm doing one every third day cus I wanna finish all 7 TBR and hopefully do 6 AAMC's for the 1/24 test date. I'm doing alright but just bombed today's test 🙁

Yeah, I thought BR #4 bio was harder than BR #3, but you know...I think I need to work on my orgo. I'm checking my work today to sort this mess out! At this point, just gotta learn from our mistakes. After reviewing answers fro BR#3's Bio, I learned small details that I overlooked before, so I guess this is good.

Yeah #4 was hard! You're right just gotta learn from it, better to make the mistakes now then on the real thing. I've got to review orgo also, as well as like every other subject haha. I was talking to someone who sat for the exam back in september and said there was very little orgo on it, thankfully. Still it's better to know it all just in case.

The thing is, I remember reading a group's impression on one of the tests and they said they were surprised by how much orgo was on it. Their BS was orgo heavy. Take home message is we don't know what kind of test we're walking into and need to have no weaknesses. I feel like TBR Orgo will prepare us well. Gotta stay optimistic! Good luck, dude! I'm going to finish reviewing TBR FL #4 then do some drilling and all that.

What?! That sucks I thought there was supposed to be very little orgo in the BS section. Oh well, gotta know it all either way. I found this orgo review site last night, it helped me understand a difficult concept - http://masterorganicchemistry.com/

I'm gonna review #4 right now as well, good luck to you too! :luck:

Hey guys - glad to see that some of you are doing the TBR CBTs as well! I'm taking the January 24th exam and haven't been posting very frequently, but as the exam gets closer I hope to post on here more often 🙂 I am currently working through the 7 TBRs and the AAMCs

Here are my CBT scores so far:

TBR #1: PS = 8, BS = 9, VR = 11 (substituted from TPR)
TBR #2: PS = 13, BS = 11, VR = 12 (substituted from TPR)

AAMC #3 (middle of content review): 10/12/10
AAMC #4 (last week): 12/12/10

I was really shocked by the first TBR CBT, especially since it's supposed to be the easiest exam. In retrospect, I wasn't very focused during the exam and made a ton of stupid mistakes, but it still makes me a little nervous to see that huge score variability on PS

Anyways, I'm trying to work on improving my bio scores but overall I really like the TBR CBTs so far - I feel like I'm learning a lot from my mistakes. However, I feel like the TBR bio sections have a lot more of their answers embedded within the passage, more so than I have seen on AAMC 3 and 4. Do you guys think the TBR CBT bio sections reflect the current MCAT?

Alright so,

BR FL #1 I got 37 (13/13/11)

But I'm posting it here because I don't really know if I should trust the scoring system or not. What do you guys think? I know this one is supposed to be the easier of all the tests as well so I guess I can expect a couple points or more lower on the other ones.

BR FL#5: 27 (8/10/9) 🙁🙁🙁

I got the same score as #4. I don't know what's going on, my scores seem to be slightly dropping and I'm really worried. There hasn't been much improvement. I really don't want to postpone cus I need to take it in Jan.

My scores so far:
BR#1: 27
BR#2: 32
BR#3: 29
BR#4: 27
BR#5: 27

I'm so upset 🙁

Damn dude, I was really thinking you'd break 30. The only thing is, I hear 5 is really hard too. I was reading through the thread and most people were complaining about 5 (not even 3!). I would highly suggest you look at the differences between your 32 and your 27 tests. What was different? The style? The subjects being asked? Your state of mind? Your testing environment? Really dissect the problem. Spend a couple days on improving those, then come back and take another FL. A 32 shows me you're capable. Good luck!

I'm postponing #5 until tomorrow. Have all this material I still need to cover. Blah

Hang in there!! Have you taken any AAMC tests yet?

Thank you 🙂 I haven't taken the AAMC's yet - I'm planning on finishing the BR's before starting the AAMC's, but I should be starting them in about 10 days.

I noticed your amazing scores, congrats!! You're on your way to a great score, keep it up!

Thanks for the encouraging words 🙂 That's a really good idea, I'll compare those two tests tomorrow and see what was different. I decided today that I have to start focusing on my weak areas more rather than sticking to my schedule. I'm gonna devote 3 days a week to review topics I'm weak on and just go through them in detail again, hopefully that'll work!

Good luck on #5!! Be weary of your time on the PS section, I almost ran out lol

I can't wait to be done with this frustrating monster of an exam

Take some AAMC exams before you freak out lol. also realize you have a month to get better.

i took the the sept 11th exam...holy crap the orgo...there was a rxn that took up the ENTIRE screen i had to scroll down to see it all. SO yeah there was alot of orgo and it was hard. I def agree that you cannot know what on this test.

Got absolutely clobbered today on the 2nd phase. I think it was a combo of getting lucky on the first phase and going in with too much confidence. I don't know what happened in chemistry. I think BR's phases are possibly designed so that they hit you with harder material on the second run through.

28: 10, 11, 7

I felt good about PS the whole time. havent reviewd it yet so im not sure where i lost points.

i felt okay about VR i wasnt confident in any answer really.I narrowed down to two choices and picked what was best. There was never an answer that jumped out as correct.

I really got rocked on BS i knew it halfway through the section. I havent reviewd it yet but i got most of one passage wrong. I was really was lost.. i mean not a clue on some of those passages. It also seem like TONS of pseudo descretes.

The BS didnt feel like an MCAT to me. It felt it was more like content recall. Does anyone have an opinion? or am i just mad i got a 7 hahahaha

Anway FL 1 was a 25, so i gained 3 pts

I have taken a few TPR, TBR, and AAMC FL's so far. While there are some pseudo-discretes on TBR bio, I feel like it's far less than what I have seen on TPR bio FL's. These TBR FLs felt closer to AAMC 3 and 4 that I have taken, but the TBRs definitely have more Orgo on them. That being said, most people say the earlier AAMCs aren't reflective of the current exam.

Sorry idk that really helps much but that's my take on it so far 🙂

yeah agreed, lots of orgo. I was really only refering to BR FL2 Specifically. i took BR FL1 and actually got the same scorein BS but didnt seem to have as many descretes.

hey guys, how do you think your scores in the to-go passages compare to how you do on the aamc fl or the real deal? I usually get about 70-80% while doing the "to-go" passages - any correlation?

Just took AAMC 3, ended up with a 34 (13 PS, 10 VR, 11 BS). I used TBR exclusively for physics, gen chem, and orgo. TBR is a lot of work but you will be glad you went through it once you get to the AAMCs, I think it did a good job in preparing me for the FLs (especially in PS). This is the only FL I've taken, so it's still probably too early to tell how well it correlates. For the record, I was also generally scoring 70-80% on TBR.

I got a 12 on PS on my September MCAT last year and I used TBR for gen chem+physics. I was scoring around 70-80% on it's end of chapter passages too.
