I'm having a very time deciding between the two schools, and I'm hoping that one of you awesome SDNers can help me out!
I've applied to the environmental health track for both schools and I'm looking to do some international/national work. I'm also primarily interested in policy, so I may do law after or while getting my MPH.
As this moment, both schools appeal to me in different ways. Berkeley has offered me full tuition (although money is not a huge obstacle for me at this moment, luckily) and has a higher ranked program. Yale has a great name and a #1 ranked law school, which, even if I don't get into that, would be so awesome to take classes at.
The thing is, if I wanted to do international work, or work outside of my immediate field, I think Yale would open more doors for me. I also went to the open house, and I really enjoyed how close all the students were with each other (I missed the Berkeley open house, however, so I feel like my decision will not be as well-informed as it should be). Yale's professors were also very nice, and the whole internship/job finding process seemed very streamlined and efficient. I also think attending an Ivy like Yale is a rare opportunity to come by. I feel as though I would be missing out on something if I didn't grab it.
Berkeley, being in California, would be a great place to go for environmental health. Like Yale, they also seem to have an excellent career center, and the rate of graduates finding jobs is close to 100%, from what I hear. It seems, however, that most people that choose Berkeley end up staying in the Bay area, which is not surprising since it's gorgeous, but because I want to do international work, I'm not so sure if Berkeley's name would carry over. Yale had people interning at the U.N. and Clinton Foundation...and I'm not sure if Berkeley's students are doing the same thing.
I can see myself regretting my decision if I picked either school: Yale for the name and Berkeley for the area and scholarship.
What do you guys think? Has anyone picked one or the other? Why? I don't feel ready to make this decision by April 15th!
