Best airliner

cheapest fare with least stop overs, could care less about their rewards program, I just collect the points awarded by my bank when using my VISA

Refurbished MD-80s are the shiz. But if pressed, I have been known to board a 707.

Also, those Chinese-made puddle-jumpers that come off the production line smelling like aviation fuel mixed with tropical sweat can't really be beat for speed and comfort.

what part of the country do you live in? i live in the southwest and fly Southwest airlines...they have cheap airfare if you are flying the west coast, but it tends to get more expensive the further east you fly. i have the southwest credit car and for every dollar you spend you get 1 mile and every dollar you spend on airfare you get 2 miles. and when you sign up you automatically get 50k in miles which is enough for 2 free round trip tickets in the US. With all that being said Annual fee is $99. I like my credit card, I like flying southwest. Lots of hubs, great prices, and 2 free checked items.

I'm on the west coast, but probably will interview mostly on the east. So that probably puts Southwest out as an option but we'll see. I don't want to get a credit card, just figure out which offers the best miles, least blackout periods etc.

I guess I don't understand what you mean by "best miles" and "least blackout dates" and "benefits" if you aren't looking to get a credit card....if you want to earn free flights and rewards, you should get a credit card. Otherwise just signing up for the airlines' rewards program really won't help you earn much unless you are flying at least a total of 15 round trips, which you most likely will have to do...but still you earn so MUCH more via a credit card....and now i sound like a telemarketer

Most of the airlines have blackout dates where you cant fly with your reward miles, or they charge a premium. My current card is through my bank and it gives me airmiles redeemable with any company, plus random stuff like free medical insurance, flight interruption insurance and 5% discount on all bookings etc. I've been with Delta before and get free flights a lot more often, like maybe every 5 trips. If you're only getting it every 15 trips then you could be saving a lot more money with another airline. The point is if you rarely travel then it doesn't matter, but if you are a frequent flier it does make a difference if you are loyal to one company.

I used Southwest because you don't get penalized for changing your flight or cancelling your flight. So when that last minute interview popped up, then it was easy to accomodate the new city or change your departing flight to a later date. Also tried to go to interviews in the midwest en route to my interviews to the east coast so it didn't matter if there was a stopover or not.

i like the southwest CC because I do earn mile quicker which means free flights more rapidly and there are NO blackout dates whatsoever to redeem my miles.

There aren't "blackouts," but when you try to get a flight on a heavy travel date, the frequent flier flights mysteriously fill up... even way ahead of time and when there are still plenty of open seats on the plane (which you can see if you try to purchase a seat for the same flight).

I always find seats when i fly around thanksgiving and christmas. I guess it just depends.

I used mostly Jetblue and Delta as I was flying out of JFK for most of my interviews and those are their hubs. I also used Southwest for one or two flights. For my money, Jetblue was the best.
