I am studying for the May 31 st exam and using examkrakers bio for content review. I was wondering what book would best prepare me for MCAT bio. I have plenty of time until my exam and would like to be thoroughly prepared for Mcat bio.

I would say TPRH science workbook for passages, and also TBR the physiology book( bio 1) has really good passages. The Molecular book (bio 2), the passages are less like the actual MCAT.

TBR is a mixed bag. Some a really really good and some are crappy. I would choose TPR Bio Review for content.

TPRH is most similar to the test.

That being said, depending on your goals, you may also want to work in TBR (which is harder than the real thing) because that will help you develop some strengths necessary to score very well.

Isnt TBR bio passages overkill?
I heard they expect you to know very specific details?

I'm about to start Bio review... What exactly is the downside with TBR's Bio Passages? I'm using EK for content and TBR for passages.

How does this^ compare to TPRH Workbook?

A detailed answer would be much appreciated.

I've already spent so much on books :bang:

Here are my two cents. I went through TBR (both content and passages). I also went through TPR (content only). I also went through EK (content only). TBR is great for passages (with the exception of metabolic stuff---I hated those and I have never seen em show up on my test). The physio part of TBR is great (both content and passages). As for TPR, I loved every bit of their content review (really excellent ----detailed enough but they do not spend pages explaining the inner workings of glycolysis until you start saying wtf am I reading). I have heard great things about TPRH passages and I am going to supplement those with TBR ones (minus the metabolic stuff). Aside from online course, I think the consensus is that TBR passages and TPRH passages are the way to go. Last time around, TBR passages got me 10 (and I did not even do more than 2 FL). This time, I am going to go through both passages cause I do not want to leave any stone unturned. hope that helps.

See the link I've (finally) put in my signature below for my opinion on TBR/TPRH. IMO, they should be used for different things and for specifically different students/goals.

EDIT: well, it only shows up once a page so its above.. here's the link: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/thr...he-mcat-study-plan-picking-resources.1045943/

Thanks for the advice everybody. Going to buy the TPR workbook and bio content as well becuase while EK is concise there are some areas that I feel I need a little more detailed review in.

Hey,

so would you recommend doing TBR book 1 bio then go to TPRH and leave book 2 alone?

Yes, MCAT bio is really analytical now, and TBR bio book 1 passages that has the charts and graphs is really good practice. Book 2, the molecular book, the passage are too dense and focus too much on remembering minutia.

Just a suggestion to those using EK, they say some stuff is not on the mcat but so far, I saw about 3 topics on my recent mcat that they specifically said won't be on it.

So make sure you're aware of everything.

I think the general consensus around sdn is that if you've majored in bio or have taken a lot of upper level bio classes, EK bio is fine for content review in bio.
