Hi guys,

Can everyone please tell me which book they use for the OSCES and clinical examination and why? I don't know which book to buy?

Also can anyone recommend a good book for pharmacology as well?

Don't they give you checklists for OSCEs? That should really be all you need.

Common book used for OSCE's:

Bate's Guide to Physical Examination. Note: You can buy the ninth or eighth. edition off amazon.com or half.com used for dirt cheap. They have the exact same stuff the tenth edition does.

Common book recommended for Pharm:

I would get the board-review (small, its above) Katzung. The big one is too much stuff, although the big one is great if you're looking for super in depth(and I mean super...). I like the small one personally and the questions at the end of chapters have helped me prepare for exams.

Hope this helps! Most people don't use books for either, just an fyi.

if your school is like mine and their OSCEs are like step 2 CS then First Aid for Step 2 CS but only if you know or someone you know can tell you if the two tests are similar

Thanks for the reply guys. I was just looking for a book to read up on the clinical skill outside classes. Thanks for all the inputs! much appreciated.

You guys don't study for ICM/OSCE? I don't really read through Bates' but I gotta review locations of lymph notes and stuff like that before I walk into an exam.

just took step 2 CS and by far the best book to study for osces and boards is first aid for CS.
