I have avoided these conferences for years since I would rather do my own thing on vacation and I feel I don’t learn a tremendous amount at these conferences. They seem to be more nurse oriented at times. BUT, I have a difficult time spending all of my CME stipend every year and I’m thinking about taking the wife on a beach vacation. So what’s your recommendations?

You could check out UCSD’s Anesthedia Update, but you just missed it last month. Probably looking for something a bit more exotic than SoCal anyways.

Frank Moya Carribbean seminar anesthesiology. (When they go to Aruba) Have been several times. They do Aruba about every third year or so at the Marriott Stellaris.

The annual Anesthesia Camp in Grand Cayman at the Ritz Carlton is about the nicest property that I have ever stayed at.

Both of the above are done for this winter.

Have Also been to the Cancun conference holiday seminars. Also at the Ritz. Not as big a fan of Cancun. But nice property.

Weather in Aruba is virtually always nice. Long flight. Cayman is super luxurious and super expensive.

It depends how much u want to spend in terms of money. And if u like family oriented beaches or singles only beaches locations.

Just to say you want cme on the beach is too non specific.

If it’s family oriented and u don’t want to spend too much money. Most any cme down in Florida is affordable.

U want to spend more. Than Caribbean locations mentioned.

You may want to check out HomeCME. Its a website where you can basically design your own conference and they ship the materials to. I used it when I went to europe and all the stuff was mailed to my hotel. might be worth checking out

Noy... I second Aruba... Was born about 40 miles from there.
Beautiful beaches. Great big surf and lots of secluded beaches deep down obscure sandy roads- watch for herds of goats though. Getting to these beaches is always part of the fun. 4x4 is essential to access.
Tradewinds spin through Aruba pretty intensely so if kite surfing is your thing, you won't be disappointed.
There are a couple of great spots for surfing as well... big swells that can really beat you down (one in particualar in a large cove... let me know if you go and I can figure it out for you- hard to get to, but awesome intenseness)
There are 2 main locations to stay. Hyatt area is great and just north of that you have access to great secluded beaches. The "high rise area" is further south (closer to the airport). The Renaissance hotel in Oranjestaad has a cool shuttle that takes you out to a private island where the flamingos, large iguanas, and Caribbean fish are very well accustomed to visitors = close encounters. One day is enough, but super relaxing and fun.
Lesser Antilles (southern) does have the best weather in the Caribbean... Big storms from Africa generally miss Northern South America coast lines and the Lesser Antilles. Check out "Taste of Belgium" if you go there. Great food and unbelievable import selection of tasty beers.
Definitely a laid back culture with a Dutch and Venezuelan influence. I'm pretty much a beach snob because I grew up in the Caribbean... these beaches are fun... but you have to get out of whatever resort you are at.
