Is there a list out there that lists the best DO schools for certain residencies? Working in health care I'm certain I want to become a surgeon, but my gpa isn't the greatest for someone with my background so wanted to keep my options open.

Go to the most established school you can, preferably one with connected surgery residencies, and then be an above average student and do well on boards. Be ok with going into a back up.

There aren't really any that are better than others for certain specialties.

There is no list like that. You could go to each schools' website and review their match lists. I also agree with what anatomygrey recommended.

Yeah look at schools that have established residndcy programs or with clinical rotations at hospitals with surgery programs 3rd year.

You’re going to want a school that has been around and has resources to help get you where you want to go, whether it’s surgery or something else.

I just matched gen surg so if you have any questions feel free to PM me.

All DO schools are more or less the same with match lists. Even the new schools are matching people into the same residency programs that older schools are. So I am not convinced that there is any DO school that can be said to be better for certain specialties. Probably has less to do with the school and more to do with the individual person.

Just rack up the acceptances, then once you have them we can help narrow down the choices. Without those acceptances in hand, recommendations are meaningless.

Google "match list XCOM 2017" and see what you see.

KCU.

My opinion was formed both by my interview day + conversations with current students and my recent experiences with surgery residents who told me the school has a good relationship with local programs.

Best bet will be at a school with an affiliated surgical residency. Not by any means impossible without one, but there’s going to be an obvious advantage to working right next to a hospital with a surgical residency where you can do your third year rotations.

RVU matches a lot of students into General surgery as well, we had a very good faculty member who was a former surgeon and does a good job working with students to get matched into the program, however I didn't chose to match surgery so I don't know all the specifics. However, in my opinion it really doesn't matter which DO school you go to in order to eventually end up in Surgery. The best recipe for success is to go to a program that is comfortable to you and is one you think you can succeed in to get the board scores and grades necessary to be considered a good candidate for surgical residencies
