Best Laptop?

I own many different laptops. From windows to Mac to Linux. MacBook pros are not good gaming machines but for everyday computing they are better. That's not how computers work. Windows is optimized to run well on any hardware it's installed one. PC manufacturers install the relevant drivers/software for their build. Yes many Windows vendors do pre-load their computers with lots of unwanted software/spam.
But again that's mostly on the cheaper, entry level products.
Also this magical control of software and hardware is not unique to Apple. Microsoft has the same thing going with their Surface product line. Look at reviews for the latests Surface laptops. They have been much more glowing than for Apple's newest line of Macbooks (unfortunate lack of ports and poor battery life)
My advice is do your research. Don't buy a mac just because of the marketing gimmick. Most high-end PCs will do just as good of a job, if not better. You will also end up with less compatibility issues with Windows compared to MacOS.

Hey you don’t have to agree with it. The people and their opinions speak for themselves. Number one company. Other PC companies utitlize all of the same things you said, they just aren’t Apple.
Where on your body is your Apple tattoo? And if you believe that their rank has anything to do with their quality of products then Apple has successfully brainwashed you.
No tattoos here. And their quality speaks for themselves. They’re head and shoulders above any tech company in the world (and it isn’t even close) because of the quality of their products. The numbers speak for themselves.Where on your body is your Apple tattoo? You’re probably just a hater because you had a Mac product once, broke it, acted all entitled in an Apple store and they refused to throw you a bone. It’s okay, stick to your PC. I don’t even know what good PC companies there are anymore because Apple put half of them out of business.

No one else wants to make fun of this guy?
Why? My arguments have merit as Apple is undoubtedly by the numbers the number 1 tech company in the world (company in general too, and its not even close.. well maybe Amazon is catching some steam with their earnings just released). No one else wants to make fun of this guy?
And make fun of me? You're the one who's profile picture is of someone who's a known, open, cruel and sick human being. How are you in the medical field when you openly endorse someone who abuses and kills living life forms for their own personal enjoyment? Well you are from Kansas. I guess that somewhat explains it.
A cult is defined as "a relatively small group". Trust me the amount of people who appreciate and understand Apple as a company is much more than a small group. Apple is at the forefront of innovation and has been for decades. No other company in the world came close to creating something like the iPhone or iPod... and when they did, Apple still reins supreme. You know why they can charge a lot? It's simple. People LOVE their stuff. If microsoft charged any higher they would be out of business tomorrow. If apple doubled their price on everything, people would still buy. Apple has infiltrated the tech universe and will stay at the top for a very very long time.I already explained having good margins and marketing don’t mean a thing - especially with Apple who hasn’t innovated in like 10 years. They are able to charge a premium because their fan base is pretty much a cult which you are a perfect example of.
And do I really need to explain I liked him as a player and not as a person. But yeah you pretty much swept the whole sweatshop thing under the rug because “everyone else does it too.” I’m not exactly sure what the being from Kansas has to do with anything, but okay.
Yeah he was a fantastic player. No Superbowl appearances last time I checked. Maybe should've spent more time practicing and less time killing innocent animals but hey that's just my opinion. And Apple's outsourcing conditions are no different than any other companies, including any and all of your beloved PC companies. I personally don't know what those conditions are though I will admit. Neither do you though with any certainty. It is confirmed though that Vick killed dogs. And as for the Kansas comment, I think you can figure it out. If not, I'd rather not speak.
My personal rule of thumb of mac vs PC is: if you're not tech savvy and just want something you know will work and last a while and price is less of a factor, a Mac is great especially if you already have other Apple products and in their ecosystem so everything syncs together. If you don't have other Apple products, are more tech savvy (especially so you can do your own research in the sea of different kinds of PCs and possibly do upgrades), and cost is more of a pressing issue, then PC is probably better. I think you pay for convenience with Apple.
As a sort of aside, I love Surface: as Microsoft makes them they're kinda like the direct PC version of Mac. Again though, you pay for the premium and convenience.

Actually, I believe that laptop manufactures are ranked yearly by laptopmag and Apple ranks in a whopping #7. Lenovo has been #1 for two years running. Apple was #5 last year and #1 for the 4 years before but has dropped due to poor quality, innovation, and value. No tattoos here. And their quality speaks for themselves. Basically, old MacBooks are good, new MacBooks are trash, everyone here has an old MacBook, but that isn’t relevant anymore because of the quality decrease in 2017.

As much as I like Macs, they are not the most popular. Apple has a big market for IPhone/IPad but not computers. In fact Mac takes about 5-7% of market share.
You guys really need to chill. GET WHATEVER YOU WANT. GUESS WHAT? NO ONE GIVES A....GROW UP @doctorcocter @MDPedigree
Are a bunch of future medical students really getting into a heated discussion re: computer manufacturers?

I had a Dell XPS 9530 (15 inch, with QHD display, dedicated NVIDIA graphics, i7, 16gb Ram). This thing retailed for over 2k.
After 1.5 years, the motherboard fried and fixing it meant replacing pretty much the entirety of the internals, which would have run me over 1k. I was tired of it at this point- I had issues with nvidia drivers, and scrolling was never as smooth as I liked. There were scaling issues with windows programs that weren’t optimized for a QHD display.
I got a used 2015 MBP. It came with a weaker processor, less ram, and only integrated graphics. It feels much better to use for almost everything I need it for - web browsing, Microsoft office, occasional random programs that were needed for labs. The build quality is better (stays shut better, opens better, hinge feels more solid, less keyboard flex)
I still have a desktop with windows, but it’s only purpose is to run games. You can’t overcome the processing power needed for AAA games with optimization, but optimization definitely beats raw power for similarly priced laptops for the general user who isn’t looking to run really intensive programs.

Very interesting. Those were the days, now everything is made to last 3yrs, cause of the exponential jump made in technology annuallyI still believe MacBooks last longer for some reason. I don’t know why. I have a MacBook since 2011, and did not have any problems.
macbook pros will last the longest in my opinion
Does anybody have an opinion on the iPad pro vs the regular or mini? I have a macbook so I figured the integration would be nice by staying with apple.
I prefer the Pro. It works really nicely with the apple pencil, and the size is a lot better for doing things.
Personally, I think that the Mini is too small to take notes on or use to study for long periods of time.
Im thinking the mini may be nice for 3rd and 4th year to fit in the white coat pocket. Do you have the larger or smaller pro? I have a 13 inch macbook so idk how I feel about the larger size if my computer is about the same size.I prefer the Pro. I have the smaller Pro (10.5 inches). My brother has the 4th generation iPad (with the thick borders) and they're exactly the same size, but my screen has basically 0 border on the left and right side.Im thinking the mini may be nice for 3rd and 4th year to fit in the white coat pocket. A nice compromise might be to get the newest generation ipad (not pro). It's apple pencil compatible, meaning it'll be a bit smaller than the pro and still give you the ease of taking notes.
The 128Gb sells for $429, which is a fair bit cheaper than the iPad pro, which sells for around $750 (Although, the iPad pro does have a better display, more storage, and faster processor)

HP Laptops are good for college students as they don't have much work and getting costly laptop won't be worth. So you can check any cheap laptops.

What do you think of the carbon? Do you find the 14 inch screen limiting for school? I'm between that, Dell XPS 15, and Thinkpad 15"About to retire my 5 year old Vaio . Going to go with thinkpad x1 carbon. =)
MacBook Pro with TouchBar so you can flex on your fellow classmates.

These two posts are incompatible. You have nothing substantial or informative to say beyond loud fanboy-ism

My challenge to you - explain why your Mac is worth 350% the market value of its hardware. You would think a real tech guru would be able to tinker with the parts and put a custom PC together. It takes about 5 minutes on Youtube to build a PC.

When you buy an Apple product you aren't paying just for the hardware, you pay for the brand. This basically applies for everything you purchase. So to answer your question as to why a "Mac is worth 350% of the market value of its hardware," it is simply because it is an Apple product.

The real question is why would you buy such an overpriced piece of mediocrity.
Those who can afford it, don't mind buying it. In my opinion, it is aesthetically pleasing, functions amazingly, and lasts a long time - I've personally never had a bad experience with an Apple product and don't mind paying extra for that level of security. The real question is why would you buy such an overpriced piece of mediocrity.

It hard for someone to break the computer when you can’t do anything on it. Macs are the padded solitary confinement rooms of computers.
Just like any confinement room, nothing can come in or go out. If the person inside is happy, who are you to judge your opinion. For the purpose of 'school' (depending on major) a Mac can do everything a 'Windows PC' can.It hard for someone to break the computer when you can’t do anything on it. Nah. Microsoft Office is far superior on PC.
Which is why I use Pages, Keynote, Numbers, etc. - which are in my opinion FAR superior than Microsoft Office on a Mac - did I mention they are easy to use and beautiful?Nah. Microsoft Office is far superior on PC.

Oooohhh Jesus Christ. I'm starting to get the feeling that all Mac users are superficial teenagers. In what world is Numbers better than Excel?

I find it extremely shocking that people are so volatile over something as ridiculous as somebody else's computer preference.
Get a Mac if you want it. If you don't, get a PC. It's a super simple concept guys I promise.

But that's the thing though. You can make your own recommendation without arguing with each other over what is best. The OP can get recommendations, do their own research, and make an informed decision based on their needs, desires, and what they value in a computer.
This might be the Canadian in me, but you just don't need to argue over every little thing. It's super simple to give an opinion and then let others have their own opinions too.
That aside, my own personal recommendation is a Mac book (I already have a portable laptop, Macbook Air from 2014, so tomorrow I'm getting an iPad and an iMac). I have had far better luck with the ease of use for Apple computers in comparison to windows. I also had several $1,000+ windows computers quit on me in less than a year, but I am not the best with technology and treat it fairly poorly. I now leave the specs up to my husband.
That's about all I have to say here, and I hope everyone has a lovely day.

I'm sporting a Razer Blade right now, it's pretty good. If I was in med school and didn't need that kind of horsepower I'd probably save the money and just get a Dell XPS, or a Razer Blade Stealth. I want to like the MacBook Pro but Apple has worked really hard to make it worse with every generation, if they made them like my old one I would probably still have one. Apparently the new i9 one has throttling issues. As for laptops to avoid, do not buy a surface book; they are too expensive and offer to little. If you want a laptop with a touch screen there are much cheaper options. I wouldn't recommend buying a laptop with a touch screen. That's like paying extra for a car with peddles.
Mac OS alone is the reason it's worth so much more. I would explain myself further but I don't think I need to because the companies sales speak for themselves. If you are at the top, like apple indeed is by a mile, you don't have to explain yourself one bit. Whatever you are doing is working. A lion isn't concerned about the opinion of sheep. These two posts are incompatible. You have nothing substantial or informative to say beyond loud fanboy-ism

I have to add that my MacBook Air 13'' is my damn BABY like I love her so much and couldn't imagine life without her. Light, efficient, simple, fast. I'm still in undergrad, but 2 years going strong and you bet I'm taking it with me to med school.

I’m ****ing done here lol. The irony is too much. Hope OP makes the right choice which I think is pretty clear.
The new i9 MBPs cannot reach advertised clock speeds because of heat issues. This is bad.
The new Blackmagic external GPU for them is a really slick idea.
Apple hasn’t done anything exciting for about a decade, but like other users have posted I’m in boat that uses a 5-year-old Mac and has had 0 issues with it. Two of my friends got Surface pros at the same time, and both of them have replaced their surfaces already. Financially they both just caught up to what I initially spent, but both of them replaced due to failures, and in the whole Med school game *not* having to deal with the stress of computer issues is valuable to me.
