I am considering getting Goljan's rapid review only because BRS is lacking in some areas. But from what I've seen, Goljan's is a thicker book. When I'm studying for the boards, do you all think it's reasonable to be able to get through Goljan's or is BRS a faster read? Thanks for any input!

I have read the BRS pathology. I don't know whether I should stick with it and use goljan audios, or just do gojan. I would like to take my exam by the end of March, if God's willing..

If you are already familiar with BRS, I don't think that getting Goljan is an effective use of your time. Many have spanked this exam with BRS instead of Goljan.

I actually have both BRS and Goljan. I'm using Goljan more during class and serious reviewing, and then BRS will be for quick review, purely based on the fact that BRS is much smaller.

yeah im starting to question whether i'll be able to truly learn from goljans book because its too long....i wanna nail whatever path boo i choose and i feel it'd be easier to do that w/ brs....i still plan on listening to his audio at the gym, driving, etc.

I have actually read BRS and Rapid Review- both the 1st and 2nd edition of Goljan. I can say that RR Pathology is 10x better, has color pictures, does not skip important diseases and details that I have seen on many questions. I have compared them both and have concluded for myself that Goljan's book is the way to go- it looks way longer, but the last 100 pages are questions, the rest if filled with pictures and there are wide margins. I am on my second go through and am still finding things that I have seen on many questions and have missed....

agree....and on top of the wide margins, pictures, questions....the actual layout of the information itself is much more organized and spread out....it breaks things down by clinical findings/lab findings/micro findings/gross findings/etc....much easier to study from IMO....don't let the thickness scare you

Which edition of Goljan RR has color photographs? When did they come out with the second edition?
Is the CD in that comes with the book worth viewing?

hmmmmmmm well i guess i'll do a comparison for my next organ system....thanks 🙂

So does the 2nd edition (newest edition) have color photographs?????

So if Babu had to purchase 1 book for path, the 2nd edition of Goljan is the way to go it seems?

Does it correlate well with the Goljan audios?

I actually have RR Path, and I absolutely hate the format with every fiber of my being. After attempting to like it for the whole shcool year I went ahead and bought the newest edition (4th) of BRS Path and I love it. They add color pictures from Rubins and it really makes for a good read. Between my in house path class and BRS and UWorld, I think I will be more than okay. I am listening to Goljans audio though.

Same here. There have been one or two chapters of RR I could get through, and I can see there's a lot of great information there, but it's just too dry. BRS Path, on the other hand, I can read like a novel. I do think most of the added content in RR is duplicated with phys and biochem sources, and people have gotten great scores with BRS for years now.

Anyone who votes for BRS Path simply hasn't seen the Goljan text. No-brainer!

I had BRS Path and wound up buying Rapid Review. BRS just left too much stuff out for my taste.

Goljan's format is perfect. Yeah, it's a thicker book, but I'm not comfortable with any more condensation of the subject matter.

Goljan, no question. Follows the audio perfectly. I think the format is perfect for memorization: you don't read it like a book, you gotta drill it! You could probably break 230 on Step just by knowing that book cover to cover.

Actually 3 books serve this purpose in separate roles.
Goljan is great, so is BRS. But BRS has no pics, but neither does the step1 have a lot of pics.
The 3rd book that the step givers are singing praises of, is the the Kumar and Klatt book with path questions(Its based on the Robbins book,Kumar is the editor of the Robbins book).http://www.amazon.com/Robbins-Revie...=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1237175451&sr=8-2

I know high scorers read all three. But now, it may be too late for June. But the motivated step1 taker may love this 3-some!

Disclaimer: I have not appeared for the steps yet. My info is 'hand me downs' from seniors. Yeah, I got all the three books as 'hand me downs', but they have horrible 'scribbles' all over.

The newest BRS edition does have color pictures.

I guess my input isn't really a fair one, since I haven't even seen BRS pathology, but I have to say that Goljan book + audio seem like an extra strong combo.
I have to say, as an FMG, it takes some time getting used to the outline format. Probably because we only used textbooks during Med school here in Croatia and I got used to everything being story-like. But (and this is a good 'but' 🙂 ) the more I read through it, the more I like it!

if you take step 1 without digesting goljan, you are quite simply an idiot.

that book probably got me 10-15 points on my score. easy.

probably 40-50 questions if not more came straight out of that book.

don't do yourself a disservice by reading brs/kaplan/all that other crap, take it from me. read goljan and only goljan for path.

if you're low on money, don't eat for 4 days-and buy goljan...🙂

Goljan rapid review & his audio is the best hands-down! I have seen/used BRS Path and Kaplan path, but Goljan has pictures and does the best of integrating the path w/ physiology, etc which is what the USMLE is all about!

The Robbins path question book is good if you are looking for path questions, but may be actually harder than most path questions on the USMLE step I

Goljan will prolly score you points in more than just path, unlike BRS. You get much more detail on micro, pharm, and biochem and how it ties into path...sounds like typical board questions to me.
