Hey everyone. I was wondering what you all think about which program is the best PDA drug reference. I have Epocrates but it doesn't have much, i don't think. I need one that has the Class, mech & all the other stuff. Any opinions? Thanks 🙂

Epocrates actually has all that stuff. There's a little popup menu at the bottom left corner that will let you display Adult Dosing, Peds Dosing, Contraindications/Cautions, Drug interactions, Adverse rxns, Mfr/Cost Info, and Other info (which includes class, MOA, pregnancy & lactation classes, metabolism, excretion, etc. Its really all I've needed so far.

Hope that helps.

Heehee 😳 I didn't even see that. Thanks... silly me! 🙂

I've tried all sorts of programs, and by far the best for me is the Medical Letter. It also comes with the Treatment Guidelines, which is great for evidence-based medicine presentations.

Has anyone had trouble updating epocrates lately? It's been a week and I still get errors every time I update and it locks up my PDA when I hit the icon.

This happened to me once before, but in a couple days it was fine. Hmmmm...

I've been updating without problem lately. I did have (a few months ago) a similar problem, after trying everything I could think of I emailed their tech support and they had me do some other stuff:

The below instructions will walk you through manually installing ePocrates Rx or ePocrates Rx Pro to your handheld. We assume you have already downloaded and double clicked Rx61.exe.

A. Delete ePocrates Rx on your Palm (if you do not have any previous version of ePocrates Rx, skip this step):
1. On your handheld, tap the Menu icon (located under the House or Application button).
2. Under App, tap Delete.
3. Select ePocrates Rx, then tap Delete.
4. Tap Done to close.

B. Change the ePocrates conduit:
1. On your computer, click on the HotSync Manager icon in the lower right hand corner of your system tray.
2. Click "Custom."
3. Double click ePocrates InstallPrep then select "Cancel". You may need to repeat this step twice, once for each conduit. Ignore this step if you do not see an ePocrates InstallPrep conduit.
4. Double click ePocrates, select "Do Nothing" and place a check mark by "Set As Default".
5. Click "OK" and "Done."

C. Manually install ePocrates Rx:
1. On your computer, click Start, Programs, Palm Desktop, Quick Install. Move this window to the left side of your computer screen.
2. Open My Computer to the following directory, C:\Program Files\ePocrates\Rx or RxPro\Palm\Palm_User_Files
3. Select all 59 files by clicking Edit then Select All or press CTRL + A on your keyboard.
4. Drag and drop these files to your Quick Install.
5. Close Quick Install, click "OK" then close My Computer.

D. Configure an AutoUpdate Server:
1. Go to https://www1.epocrates.com/download/rxPro6/download_step_1.cfm
2. Click the Setup button.
3. Follow the remaining Connection Advisory instructions.

E. First HotSync.
HotSync to install ePocrates Rx Pro.

F. Change the ePocrates conduit:
1. On your computer, click on the HotSync Manager icon in the lower right hand corner of your system tray.
2. Click on "Custom."
3. Double click on the "ePocrates" conduit, select "Synchronize The Files" and check the box next to "Set As Default."
4. Click "OK" and "Done."

G. Second HotSync
Connect your computer to the internet then HotSync a second time to download the latest clinical updates and activate AltMeds, Tables and ePocrates ID.

Good luck!
