For surgeries coming up in rotations, what's the best place to read up on the exact steps of the procedure? For example, I have some C-sections coming up this week and some gyn onc procedures next week. Is there a well known place/website that ppl use to read up on procedures ahead of time? MD Consult? Access Medicine? Thanks.

Surgical Recall is absolutely the book to use for a general surgery rotation--doesn't cover everything for the shelf, but is the book to keep in your coat pocket to read up right before a procedure. There's a OB/Gyn Recall as well, but I haven't heard anything about it. When I did my OB/Gyn clerkship, we would use atlasofpelvicsurgery.com before going to the OR.

Zollinger's atlas of surgical operations is a great book for general surgery procedures. Check the school library, it should be in there somewhere.

Sweet, thanks guys. I don't really have time to order the general atlas' now but will come in handy for sure when I have my surgery rotation in the spring. My OB/Gyn surgeries are these next 2 weeks, http://atlasofpelvicsurgery.com/ looks perfect for this rotation. Thanks again.

or-live.com will have videos of many common surgeries. They're not necessarily intended for people in the medical field, more for the general public, but it can allow you to see what things look like during the operation which can be helpful if it is your first time through. At least you can look at a big structure and know "okay, that is the uterus", etc...

I used to use procedures consult sometimes, if you have access through that through your school.
