Anybody have any suggestions for the best pocket surgery reference? I have recall of course, but I'm really looking for something more like boards and wards that is surgery focused.

Surgery Recall was really all I needed. It was perhaps the best book I bought in all of third year. If you are truly interested in going into surgery, then I would recommend the Mont Reid Surgical Handbook. There is a revamp of Pocket Surgery coming out in November.

You can fit Surgical Recall in your white coat. Uncomfortable, but it's possible.

I've personally used this Pocket Surgery reference guide for my clinical rotations. This is absolutely loaded with useful information. And you can't beat the price especially if you do a group order with them! 🙂

I didn't like surgery recall. It gets a lot of push, but it didn't feel like it was teaching me anything. It depends on your attending's questioning style though. My guy asked management/evaluation and scenario type questions, so a list of 60 factoids didn't really help me much.

Truthfully, I did not really have a true "pocket reference". I had the cards for any progress notes or whatever else and then I'd print off a couple pages of kaplan or a step 2 book for quick reading whenever I got to sat down. My phone got a lot of the random information. I'd also get the list of surgeries for my attending that week and make sure to read up on them with bigger books. I did have one "pocket" book that I can't recall the name of, but the thing was far too big to be in my pocket and I'm 6'5"...
