Hey Folks,

So next spring will be my fourth semester working on my pre-reqs as a non-trad, informal post-bacc student. Here's what I've taken so far:

Bio I/II w/ labs
Chem I/II w/ labs
Genetics
Physics I w/ lab

The only class I'm signed up for at the moment is Physics II for next semester. I know I have to get my year of ORGO, but at my school they don't offer the sequence starting in the Spring. So I'll take Orgo I/II in the summer as a sequence, then take the DATs immediately following this. That said, the courses offered in the biology department this coming Spring are a little thin. My only real options that I'm eligible to take are below:

ABIO 217 Introductory Cell Biology

ABIO 308 Parasitic Diseases & Humans
ABIO 325 Comparative Anatomy Chordates

I know it might be hard to say w/o course descriptions, but would it be worth my time (and $) to take any of these classes? Will they help me be introduced to material I may learn at a higher level in dental school?

I'd like to take Micro and Biochem, but unfortunately Orgo I and II are prereqs to these classes, so that will have to wait until next fall.

Thanks in advance!

Hate to bump, but I would really appreciate some advice from some of you seasoned veterans. Will any of these classes br a legitimate use to me in dental school? boost my chances of getting in?

i would take Cell Biology since its the basic to most of the upper level bio classes.

I took comparative anatomy last year and would definitely recommend it. It obviously won't cover everything you'll need to know for gross anatomy in dental school, but it does help you to become familiar with a lot of the terminology/ common structures.
My boyfriend is an M1 right now and he says that his biggest regret is not taking anatomy before starting med school. He's still doing well in the class, but he feels like he has to put in more work than classmates that have prior experience.

OP,

Out of that list Anatomy looks the best (required by the most schools), though i feel cell bio had good information for the DAT.

Don't give up on Micro, as i found out during my informal post bacc, my university did not require me to have the pre-req classes (because of my graduate standing, even though i was not in a masters program at that time)

if you are looking for another class, a few schools require a psychology, math/calc that would be good to take also.

EDIT: FYI
quickly going through the guide to dental schools book these are the most required course outside of the minimal requirment (including writing/English) in order of most required to least required.

Required: (note: required means by some of the schools not necessarily even the majority of schools)
Biochemistry
Microbiology
Math/Calc
Physiology
Molecular biology/genetics
Anatomy
Psychology
Sociology

Recommended:
Cell Bio
Immunology
Zoology
Histology
