This has been answered many many times...

the In N Out residency is by far and away the best.

Sweet! Now I know how to rank my programs this year!

Of course per SAEM.org Residency Catalog. the top 5 are...

1.University of Alabama at Birmingham
2.Maricopa Medical Center
3.University of Arizona

FWIW I think U of A should be #1 but #3 overall aint bad..

Garsh! It's so weird how the rankings almost follow the alphabet! Thank god I didn't get into the lowly Vermont program, what a bunch of losers.

I should have expected this type of response... I am only trying to find out how you guys feel.

Well, I think #1 is unquestionable but the rest may be up for discussion...🙂

Alphabet? U M U? thats how the first one begins? Im confused?

Is there anywhere that you can see which residency programs are the best? I

the best way to get advice is not to write nasty PMs.. i helped anyhow though.. cause well im better than you!

Anyone else get a PM? or was it just me?

Just you. YOur special.

Alphabetized by State then by program (Alabama, Arizona, etc)

What did your PM say? Post it here for us all to ridicule and laugh

I was totally joking. Sorry the sarcasm wasnt as clear as I had hoped. I was simply pointing out that the person who stated that did not have them in alphabetical order but since no one got the joke it must have been poorly delivered perhaps its my ortho pager ringing incessantly.

Ask and ye shall recieve. I have even included my own response...

I am obviously smarter than you.. i spend my free time with my wife. the thing is i am so smart and so great that i can find time during work to answer emails and PMs.

The answer to your Q is that there is no list. its all subjective. the advice i give people is choose based on geography and your interests. Some places are better at Peds, others EMS, others tox others do more trauma, others are US pimps or research dorks.etc. Find what you like and focus on those programs.

... Or some just have great f*%*ing mountain biking and an NHL franchise.

I got all of my wishes in my #1 program!

Chuck Norris once roundhouse kicked someone so hard that his foot broke the speed of light, went back in time, and killed Amelia Earhart while she was flying over the Pacific Ocean.

I'm sorry - no one can answer this question. People have tried, but a final decision on the matter has been deferred until March 2009. Preliminary results have been withheld on the basis that whatever program I match at will automatically be catapulted into the top 3, regardless of prior standing. It is likely that said program will actually become #1, but that remains to be seen.

😉

Well, he didn't intentionally kill her. Chuck Norris has better aim than that and would not have hurt a national hero. However, the sonic boom from his foot breaking into her time period 1 mile away destabilized her plane long enough to inadvertently cause her death.

Wow, I'm so flattered that the Arizona programs are so highly regarded!😀

I stand corrected!

the OP's question isn't entirely without merit. there are clearly some programs that are 'better' than others, more competitive, or more highly desired based on the same factors that set other specialty residencies apart from each other (i.e. strength of the faculty, residents, facilities, benefits, job recruitment, fellowships, etc).

i still don't get why ppl are so afraid to comment on the strength of one EM residency over another. i think we could all agree that there are some really good programs and then some not-so-good programs (won't name 'em here 😀 )

Wait just a minute! I used to date Emelia Earhart. Oh, wait, it was Emily Dearfart. Chuck Norris used to come by and bring a casserole made of monkey that he had frozen while exhaling during a cheop while fighting the Mongols. Tasted just like chicken. That's the monkey, not Emelia, er, Emily.

Quite simply, because this is an incredibly personal decision. I can tell you quite honestly, that I wouldnt and didn't even *think* about programs like Maricopa/Denver/etc. Not that they are 'bad' programs, but they would have been bad for me. Location being one of the most central issues. In NY, I interviewed but didn't rank Lincoln and cancelled bellevue. Again, it was a very personal decision. These are both great programs, for the right people. Just not me. So, better is an incredibly relative concept. Much like medical school, if you end up hating where you are at, despite it being a 'better, you are going to end up shooting yourself in the foot because you will not succeed in a program where you hate everyone and everything.

The reason no one is going to name 'bad' programs is partially because of the above adn partially because EM is a very tiny world. Why burn a bridge you might need later.😎
