Can someone who has had experience in this area post what they feel is the best book? I've seen other threads, and the books posted didn't seem like it was the best. I am interested in hearing your thoughts on which one you used/recommend.

Thank you for your help guys.

If you search scribd.com, you can find quite a few military training guides (I believe I just used MD-0913, drug dosage and therapy). You can use those as free supplements to any book you pay for.

I personally used Noah Reifman's "Certification Review for the Pharmacy Technician." I was able to find a copy locally for cheap. I studied for about a week or two and passed the exam first try.

I rememebr seeing your post on that. I think you mentioned that it had some errors, and it didn't have the law part or something?

Did it help you alot? Were you new to the whole pharm thing or had experience?

I used the Mosby's book as per everyone else's instructions. I didn't have difficulty with the PTCE and passed on my first try with a score of 814. It certainly has some mistakes in it (like incorrect letter assigned for the answer and so on) but to me, it wasn't enough to detract from the overall usefulness of the book. I had no pharmacy experience.

I recently took the test and I used Delmar's Complete Review for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Examination and I have to say
it was the best for drugs and explaining mechanisms of action. The book is hefty, I wouldn't even lie to you, however, it is the most thorough in my opinion (I had the purple book as well).

Mosby's was very helpful. The PTCE questions are pretty much the same format.

I don't remember it having any errors, though I can't say for sure one way or the other. I also thought it had a law section. If I remember right, there's not very much law stuff to remember. There's some medicaid, the CMEA, and what goes on an Rx.

Without the book, I couldn't have passed the test. I had NO previous experience/ exposure when I took the test. (I worked in nuclear power at the time).

Wow. Listen guy, you DO NOT need a book to study for this test. It is EASY.

It's easy, but if you're not good at conversions and you can't fake the "Pharmacy Law" questions, it's a risk.

Better to get the book (it's inexpensive) and have something to study than go in guns ablaze and waste the time when you score 598/900.

It's relatively easy, but I didn't have any pharmacy experience so learning the laws and top 200 prescription drugs wouldn't have been possible without a book. At the very least, the book gave me piece of mind.
