Best time to work out in medical school?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
interesting how most of the brands that claim a really high percentage were the ones who were most off during measure. people can't go wrong with ON gold standard. It's just the time tested, big company, relatively pure, fairly priced and simple way to go.

cool chart, I've never seen that before.

1) Yes, for the average student they are affordable and do the job. He's not getting paid to bodybuild.

2) Most people can't even do 2 good ab rolls using the ab roller. Like I said many elite athletes use the ab roller. I trust their world class trainers over you any day.

3) Ok sure.....

what do you mean affordable?

Amazon product ASIN B000QSNYGI
58 bucks gets you ~ 70 servings of 24g/serving. find me a better deal than that. mix with 4 oz of water, boom. plus you can find it cheaper if you look for deals.

not to mention the idea of pre-mixed protein is disgusting. whatever they do to make it semi-edible and sit on a store shelf in liquid for 6 months, I don't want any part of it.

Sorry, forgot to respond. I rent a house with roommates, which is cheaper than living in an apartment where I live. You could probably find an apartment that would allow you to have a rack and a platform though. Or you could just pay for a garage unit at an apartment complex and use that. Where there's a will, there's a way.

I know a dude that has 5k lbs of 45 lb plates in a storage unit gym. I think he just hoards 45 lb plates for the fun of it now. It's an impressive sight.

I tried to pick up something semi heavy once, like heavier than the 10 lb weights my mean Pilates instructor makes me pick up, and I think I ruined my manicure and almost fell over

If your protein says it contains Soy Protein, then put it back. It doesn't have all of the essential amino acids. Whey Protein does. Hell, I gained around 30 pounds of muscle in 3 years with Muscle Milk (not a, nor ever was, competitive weight lifter.) What AAs you want are Leucine, Isoleucine, and Valine (which can be supplied in a 1:1:3 ratio in BCAA's.)

Once I started working out at home, I starting working out much more frequently (4x week). It cuts out the time to pack up stuff, and travel. You can get a treadmill for the wintertime or just run outside otherwise.

A weight bench and free weights go perfectly into a basement but this depends on where/how you live of course. I got my weight bench free on craigslist. This worked for me and might not work for you.

I have to say I also like the idea of going to a gym near your school / rotation since that will save travel time if you have to get there anyway. I think most importantly you have to arrange something that you love and that you look forward to.

What's the best time to workout in years 1 and 2? How many days a week can I realistically expect to workout?

I picked up 8 to 12 hr nursing shifts several times a week 1st and second year. I think you can find 1 to 2 hrs to workout every day if you wanted while still having study time (unless you need more study time for reasons).

1) Yes, those wal-mart protein shakes do the job of wasting your money. The supplement industry is not FDA approved.

2) I don't even...LOL

3) Great rebuttal
Whatever you say. Wouldn't be surprised if you look like peter griffen with pencil thin eyebrows and no mustache in real life from the way you sound.

I know. I feel bad. But if someone challenges me, I gotta crush em....

I'm challenging you because you're doling out misleading advice. You resorting to ad hominem attacks only reflects on how mature you are. Typically, the trainees who obsess over ab rollers are also the ones who have nothing to show for all the time they dedicate to "working out". Take care

yep...i look like peter griffin.

Ewww. Wtf. No woman is going to be attracted to that. Women like natural looking athletic strong men. Not steroids bozos. Please do not listen to this man. If you make your body look like that by taking drugs or different substances, your health is gonna suffer over the long term. Your gonna wake up one day with adrenal insufficiency if you keep taking steroids bruh. And don't say dont do it for women, because if your doing it for good health, apologize to your liver and kidney for what they are going to look like in the future.

For those of you that started working out in the morning:

Is it going to be pretty difficult for me to start getting up at 5 every morning to hit the gym? Did it take you a long time to adjust?

I would have thought a med student would be smart enough to know when is the best time to work out. Only you know your school schedule and the best time for a quick workout.

just stop talking.
everything you say is stupid. it's bodybuilding idiot, not everyone centers their life around attracting women and there's nothing in that picture to indicate steroid usage. not to mention the fact that it's incredibly likely he isn't that lean year round..so he'd probably look like a " natural looking athletic strong man" when its not competition season. using pre-made protein shakes is stupid, I've literally never seen anyone that trains and is reasonably strong/big use them. they're made for the new years resolution crowd.

sloh brah you look shredded

When I was in first and second year, I would work out in the mornings before going to class. Now that I'm in third year, it depends on what rotation I'm on. If I start the rotation at 8 am, I work out in the morning beforehand. If I start the rotation earlier (I'm looking at you surgery and IM), I work out in the evenings.

Lol yeah I didn't even bother to respond to him. I'm disheartened someone as prejudiced as twospadz is going to be a physician someday. And FYI twospadz, I am a lifetime drug free lifter. I can empathize how it feels to be endowed with such terrible genetics that you consider the picture I posted a blatant correlation that I use PEDs. And guess what, if I ever wanted to look as mediocre as you, all I would have to do is sit on my ass eating nachos for a couple months.

Jesus Christ, you guys are no fun. I was joking. When do you guys ever have fun in your lives? You study all day and are still uptight when you go on an internet forum. You guys probably struggle to have people like you seriously. This is my last post. This isn't fun anymore....
