I have the pleasant dilemma of being accepted to more than one school. How is the best way to respond to the schools that I won't be attending? Should I write them a letter declining their acceptance or just let the deadline lapse?
Thanks for any input!

call them soon so that the space that may or may not be yours can be opened up for someone else.

You can call, but I wrote letters thanking the admissions committee for their time, etc.

I think the best thing that you can do is to call and also write a letter to the admissions commitee. The call allows the school to find another qualified candidate soon, and the letter is polite.

Just wanted to say, good Vonnegut quotes. 👍

I just sent emails thanking them for their consideration and the honor of being selected but declining. An email is fast like a phone call but more "formal" like a letter all at once. They can also forward the email around to the proper people, which make their lives easier I am sure. Good luck

It's best to write them a letter. That way, communication is on paper rather than through word of mouth. I had to do the same. Btw, Congratulations on your acceptances!

Thanks Fruit Fly

I wrote emails. Its cheaper than sending a stamped envelope. The way I look at it, I've spent enough on this whole process, and I don't feel like spending any more. Screw it if sending an email is 'not polite enough', it works, doesn't it? Most of the schools I was accepted to sent me an acceptance offer through email, so why can't I decline it via email as well?

I made sure to write a very nice, sincere letter, though.

you know how schools ask why youre declining? should you tell them which school you picked over them, or a specific reason why?

I just sent emails. They seemed appreciative that I was letting them know well before Dec. 15th deadline and I also explained why I was picking somewhere else. In one case, I received a "don't jump so quickly, we might could give you a scholarship as well." So, in that case, it was very wise to let them know my reason. 🙂

did they really use the double modal? might could? nice
