Hi everyone,
This is a question for current med students who have gotten the hang of studying the large amount of material you need to learn. A hypothetical example: say you have 50 chapters in a textbook to learn but a limited amount of time. How do you decide when you need to go back and review instead of learning new material? Would it be like "ok, every 5 chapters I will review what I have learned" or "every few days of studying I will review"? How do you know when it is best to review what you have already covered?

Spaced repitition.

After you review a deck of flashcards, you put the easy cards and difficult cards in two piles. The difficult cards you will come back to tomorrow, the easy cards you come back to in 2 days.

The cards in the difficult pile are for daily review, if you realize that some of the cards become easier to recall then those get put in the easy pile.

When you review the easy cards, the ones that you still easily remember get put in another pile that you will come back to in 5 days. The ones you kinda remember remain in the review every 2 days pile.If you cant remember the card, demote it to the everyday pile.

In 5 days you check out the super easy pile, and if you get those right then you put those cards in another pile thats every 2 weeks. So on and so forth.

This way you focus on the cards you have the most difficulty with and periodically review cards you are more comfortable with. You can have as many piles as you want, but usually its something like: Daily (most difficult) --> every 2 days ---> every 5 days ----> every 2 weeks ---> every month

Not sure how this will work with memorizing a text book but I guess you can make some wordy flashcards.

Step one is to not put yourself in a position where you have to learn 50 chapters of a textbook all at once. Don't cram. Start studying early, because that will give you enough time to review the material multiple times, which obviously helps with memorization.

As much as it pains me to say it, because I am a kinesthetic learner, Anki all day everyday is the best way.
