Hi everyone. I'm taking my test in aug this year. I know aug is late so I was goign to apply only to a few schools (3-5). I was wondering if I dont get in, then next year if I apply to different schools would I have to say what makes me a better candidate?

Do schools not check if I applied the year b4 to different schools?

Your logic is backwards. The later you submit, the harder it is to get in, and the more schools you should apply to.

What I mean is that because it is harder, I plan to apply next cycle but am trying my luck in august. Would applying to a couple schools in aug (assuming I dont get in) hurt my chances to get in if I apply again the following year but at different schools?

Basically in aug i'd plan to apply to easy schools and hope i get lucky.

If you don't get in this cycle, and apply to all new schools the following cycle, those schools wouldn't know that you are a reapplicant (unless the secondaries ask you if you've previously applied to medical school). So to answer your question, no it wouldn't hurt your chances as long as you apply early the following cycle.

on the amcas for each school you select to send your primary app to they ask if you have applied to that school in the past, so i think that each school would know that you are a reapplicant, but i cannot see why that would be a bad thing. it shows persistence on the part of the applicant.

Just a note: being a reapplicant at a school is not always a bad thing. Some schools believe it shows determination to succeed. Hopefully you won't have to reapply anyway, but don't forget about a school just because you didn't get in the first try. Many people take the august MCAT and do just fine during the application process.

As has been stated previously, go ahead and get your primary applications in early so that the schools are able to review your complete applicaiton as soon as your MCAT score is available.

Good luck,
T

There are no easy schools. It makes no sense to devote time and money towards a half-hearted attempt application this time around and then go all-in next time. You should make a serious attempt at applying, or not at all.

Any school that you apply to both times will know you're a re-applicant. You'll have to answer questions like "why didn't you get in last time?" and "what have you done since then to become more competitive?" and sadly, some schools look down on re-applicants.
