better physiology review book?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
These are both excellent texts.

I bought Ganong because it goes in depth a little more than the BRS, but I don't think you could go wrong with either book.

If you're looking for a great pathophysiology book that's less dense than Harrison's, check out The Principles and Practice of Medicine by Stobo et al. (~$50). It's written by a bunch of my professors and is a uniformly excellent textbook.

These texts are VERY different in nature. Ganong goes into MUCH more detail than Costanzo, which covers only the major ideas, and is a much more high-yield source. You should pick the book that suits your needs. I find that Costanzo is very good for learning the major principles of physiology, while Ganong is much better as a reference. If you prefer high-yield books to supplement your notes, reach for Costanzo; if you enjoy reading/learning from textbooks, Ganong's your man.

Which one is better for USMLE prep?

If you're studying for the boards, buy Costanzo.

If you're taking physiology (or just want to know it well), buy Ganong.

just get a main textbook and quit with the short cuts.

when u eventually use review book for finals shelves or step 1s...it becomes much easier.
