I am thinking of applying to EDP at my state school - NJMS in NJ (3.6, 35) as it is my 1st choice. If I submit my app now for regular pool, it won't be verified until mid/late July. If I submit EDP, AMCAS will be verified within days and the school will interview me early July. NJMS has been known to give decision within days and few weeks at latest. So I am accepted, it is great but if I am rejected, I can still apply to other schools around late July, around the same time as regular pool. Am I thinking this right or is it that despite a rejection, you still have to wait until October 1st to apply elsewhere?

Are you saying you will have an answer in July based on stated policy by the school? If not, you shouldn't count on it at all. EDP decisions are typically handed out on or just before October 1st. You mention "NJMS has been known to give decision within days and a few weeks at the latest." Is that for general applications or EDP specifically? You need to get this information from the school, and find out about whether you can apply before October 1st to other schools before you decide to do this.

Hi, from speaking with the deans and admissions office, they state that they interview early July and give out their decisions as they are made for EDP. According to them, they will accept or reject you without waiting for the October 1 deadline. If you are rejected July or August, you are immediately free to apply to other schools. Does this seem too good to be true?

I would check with AMCAS to make sure first, your app will be verified more quickly by applying EDP, and second, you will be free to apply to other schools as soon as they give you a rejection. AMCAS might automatically block you from applying to other schools if until October 1st if you apply EDP. I don't know that they do that, but if they do, you are screwed, so check with them.

If AMCAS indicates you won't have any problems, and you are confident you will be quickly rejected or accepted, it sounds like applying EDP there is a good plan. :luck:

I called AMCAS and they say that EDP are not verified first but looking at previous threads, they indicate otherwise.
Looking at the 2012 AMCAS instructions book, it states for EDP:
Not to submit additional applications (AMCAS or non-AMCAS) until:
o Receipt of an EDP rejection, or
o Receipt of a formal release from the EDP commitment, or
o The October 1 notification deadline passes. Contact your EDP school if you have not been notified of your status by October 1.

So technically, they can't put hold on my application if I am rejected early. And also, IDrads stated in the following post about NJMS EDP which got me wondering about the whole process:

Sounds good to me then. Just hope the school is quick about it if they ultimately reject you, so you have a chance at other schools.

IMHO this seems like a risky move, why not apply "normal" to all schools and see where the chips fall? You may discover that you love another school and attend there, and if you're going to get into the Jersey school then I don't see what difference EDP vs "normal" will make (besides AMCAS and secondary fees?). Best of luck to you.

By the way, any confirmation on the AMCAS verifying early for EDP? They say no, but other say yes, but does that yes only apply if you might miss the deadline near august 1st? This is eating me alive.

No clue. I had applied "normally" last year, and converted to EDP after verification, so I don't know.

Cant speak about being verified earlier due to EDP, but I have spoken to several individuals who were able to meet with NJMS dean of admissions. He does indeed try his very best to inform applicants of their EDP results as quickly as possible. I believe most know by the middle to end of July.

So can anyone verify if EDP applicants are verified early? That is the only thing holding me back from applying EDP.

I am applying EDP also, submitted my app last week and had it verified 3 days later. Hope this helps.

I applied EDP and was verified the same day. I don't know if that means anything, but maybe?

Thank you for your responses, and yes, it does verify the same day or soon after you submit.
