does anybody know if it's better to go to a research oriented dental school if you want to get into a specialty program after graduating?

It is good to do some research. At a research school you will have an easier time at getting into it. When I was at U Penn they said that almost all of their students get into the specialty they want. A combination of the name and research. I think in the end it comes down to how well you know your stuff though.
