Can someone explain why you would bill for one over the other for TM repair?

Two different procedures entirely.

69610 is basically your typical in office paper patch or gel foam patch myringoplasty.

69631 is a true Tympanoplasty, making and lifting a tympanomeatal flap, etc. Usually these are done in the OR, maybe also include codes for grafts depending on the technique used.

Which one you bill simply depends on what you actually do.

Ahh thank you. Doing some chart reviews and the CPT code explanation for 69610 was "repair of eardrum" and 69631 was "tympanoplasty" which I thought were the same. Thank you for explaining the difference.
