What is dolly?
a) lion
b) panda
c) monkey
d) elephant
e) none of these

is this the dolly question that people are talking about?

"Dolly (July 5, 1996 – February 14, 2003), a ewe, was the first mammal to have been successfully cloned from an adult somatic cell. She was cloned at the Roslin Institute in Edinburgh, Scotland, and lived there until her death at age six.[1] Her birth was announced in February 1997."

- wikipedia..

is that it?!

The question you are thinking of asks about what cells were used to create dolly. I think the answer is mammary gland cells, but I can't with great confidence offer more then that.

And can anyone (without using google) tell me why Dolly only lived to age six?

If I am not mistaken, Campbell's/Reece's BIO book said that the cells "inherited" the age of the cells they were created from...so they were "old"..........anyone know any better

That is how I remember it from an upper level course I took. Something to do with telomeres shortening with each replication.

Yes that is correct, why I can’t believe that was on DAT. I mean it is a silly question. Guys come on, Dolly was a sheep and of course the answer is E - none of these. I mean if anything, I would assume that actual DAT will ask something about how Dolly was generated using foster eggs and the nucleus. The point of the question may be that phenotype comes from the nucleus and not from the foster egg.
Where did this question come from?

every time DNA gets replicated, telomeres shorten
the cells used to clone Dolly had chromosomes with short telomeres due to constant dna replication, thus Dolly did not live long..

Not to offend you guys but you know what I took the DAT a while ago and I think it is stupid and horrible that someone out there is giving information from their DAT questions to other people. I think we all need to have a honesty and integrity check.

We as dentists need to set a standard for our communities. We shouldn't be dishonest and we shouldn't be sharing test questions.

if the test has the same problems on the next test and someone reveals the test questions then that should be considered as being dishonest, but they change the problem every time so I don't see any problem with it.
It's like taking DAT for the 2nd time doesn't mean he already knows the answers for it since it will be different from the 1st time.

Besides, there are many companies such as Kaplan giving us info about what was on the actual test and they never get sued.

Justify it how you like but we are talking about people telling exact details about questions. That is dishonesty however you look at it.

definitely not.. i mean how do you study for any standardized test?
would you prefer that these ppl who are "dishonest" publish their information and that would make it okay?

its fine. the discussions held are just like studying from a book

You have to blame the DAT/ADA. There should be a bank of 1000's of questions, and 40 (or however for each section) should randomly pop up. This isn't 1982 where you had to talk to someone who recently took it (what are the chances of that?)..we are in the internet age, stuff leaks online!!!

Putting Die Hard 4 online because you brought a video camera is the definition of dishonesty.

you should blame Kaplan for publishing a DAT book and having a class to teach DAT, because they tell you exact details🙂
