although a bio major will probably be more detrimental to one's GPA, wouldn't you all agree it would be better preparation for dental school for having seen some of the material covered before you start your studies?

Bio major is a more direct route to dental school, although more difficult than many other majors.

Maybe, maybe not. Depends on where you do your bio undergrad work at. If you work at a big research focused school where you'll be exposed to a broad range of aspects of science....yeah, it would probably help. Now if you're at some podunk liberal arts school (ISU is a perfect example- the school's primary purpose is to crank out teachers, so everything else is secondary) where biology and the other sciences are an afterthought on everything, including funding, then you might not be any more prepared than if you majored in a foreign language (for example) and just did your prerequisites on the side.

bio is definitely harder...but if you like it, the difficulty shouldn't matter. besides, D-school is going to be similar and def harder than your undergrad bio times. i would say that it should help you in your future career...

I switched from Sociology to Biology because I thought that it would help me out in D-school but looking back I should have finished my sociology degree. I had already finished most of my pre-reqs before the switch and the classes that I have taken to finish my Biology degree (the classes that were supposed to prepare me for D-school) are Ecology, Evolutionary Bio, Genetics, etc.... They are interesting subjects but how much Ecology am I going to need in dental school. My advise (not worth much) is find something you enjoy learning about and major in that. If you love Bio, do Bio, but if you are afraid that you won't do well in undergrad bio classes and that is the reason you choose another major, then you probably will have more problems taking graduate level bio courses.
