Hey y'all, I'm an incoming freshman and I've run into a standpoint about classes, so I thought I'd give SDN a shot. I know this is terribly early, but I'm about to talk to my academic advisor at the college sometime this week, so I wanted to try and sort this out beforehand.

My current major has a plan somewhere around this range:
Freshman: Chemistry, Sophomore: Organic Chemistry and A&P, Junior: Intro to Bio

I'm planning on taking the DAT the summer before junior year, so this schedule definitely isn't going to fly. I was planning to take Chem freshman year, and knock out both Bio and Ochem during my sophomore year so I have the basics down. However, I've also heard that A&P could be useful. So far, here are my different plans I could take:

1) Cancel out Bio with my AP credit and take A&P sophomore year (Not particularly keen on the idea as I'm pretty sure AP isn't remotely close to the level of teachings at the college level, and I don't want to have a weak base)

2) Take Chem and Bio freshman year, Ochem and A&P sophomore year (Could be ideal, but I'm unsure if I'd end up overloading myself and have GPA take a massive hit)

3) Bite the bullet and just try to study A&P on my own before I take the DAT.

Anyone have any suggestions on which route might be the best to take? Any advice is appreciated!

An added that I found for the laughs :

Any route works. The A&P on the DAT is very very simple. For me general Bio wasn't that useful for A&P, It helped me more in molecular biology.
But if you feel like you would be overwhelmed try spacing things out, your GPA isn't very easy to recover.

Stop worrying about this now and enjoy your freshman year. I'm being 100% serious. There's also really no anatomy on the DAT and the physiology on the exam can easily be self taught.

I had one question about heart valves but that was it.

Okay, I'll keep that in mind!

Thanks for your input! Thanks to both of you, I've easily made up my mind 🙂

I'd strongly recommend bio before the dat. There is so much information in that section that a general bio class should cover most of it and the little extra anatomy and physiology on the dat can be self taught.
