Most schools say "2 semesters of intro bio with labs"

I am not a science major and therefore took 1 semester of intro bio with lab (it covered work of 2 semesters); then i took genetics with lab, cell bio and microbiology with lab. Will these count? :scared:

I'm sure they do. What med schools are looking for are two semesters of classes with the BIO distinction. Intro and Genetics would cover you fine, though taking Micro is a good thing too. I had an interviewer commend me on taking it even though it wasn't a requirement for my degree or the MD program. I think his field was something with a micro slant, so I guess it was a fetish of his.

Talk to your school and see if this is what the premeds are requred to take. Med schools tend to be sticklers with the prereqs, and they require the basic two semesters of intro bio with labs. That usually means Bio 1 and 2 with labs, not bio 1 and genetics or whatever. No substitutions.

No, the requirement is usually 2 semesters of BIO and lab. Genetics counts as does micro (as long as it is the higher level one) if they are above intro bio level. I had AP credits for intro bio and the schools that didn't accept it stated that as long as I had 2 bio classes with labs it was fine.

Um no. They are looking for the intro bio courses because the goal of prereqs is, in part, to have an applicant pool who have all taken some common set of courses, so that they can be more easilly compared. That doesn't really work if some folks take intro bio and others try to sub in genetics or micro. So the latter tend not to suffice, at least at some med schools.

i'm pretty sure you can take any bio you want
Law2Doc: where are you getting your information from?
maybe LizzyM can chime in here

Most medical schools that I have been looking will tell you what counts and what doesnt. The majority have said BIO in general with classes they wont accept listed out, if they dont accept certain BIO classes they usually are Botany and/or zoology among a few others. I would assume they would accept most BIO classes unless specifically stated....but its always better to be on the safe side and check with the school if you aren't sure

well wouldn't it be stupid now to take bio 102 (or whatever the version of general bio 2 is) now that I've graduated and have taken more advanced bio course, and i wasn't a bio/science major.

what about for physics?
My college offers Physics 1 and 2, which are 5 credits each. and it also has something called Physics: The Simple Laws That Govern the Universe which is 3 credits and has a lab and lecture component. I took physics 1, and considering im doing miserably i was wondering if i took Physics the simple laws, would it be acceptable to med schools? im not a science major either.

I think you're ok, especially with cell bio there. For the physics class, I think that would be ok, but I would talk with your school's counseling services and maybe call some medical schools about it as well just to confirm.
