The functional unite of skeletal muscle consists of:
a) One muscle fiber and motor end plate
b) An entire muscle
c) A single motor neuron and the group of muscle cells innervated by it
d) All muscle fibers innervated by a spiral nerve
e) A group of myofibers and their myofilaments

I picked e) because it sounds like the definition of a sacromere to me. answer key says c). I dont know but I think c would be motor unit.
Can somone help please?

Wow i wouldn't know how to answer that either. You are correct - functional unit of the muscle is a sarcomere. E doesn't seem right either because a sarcomere is one myofibril which is made up of a bunch of myofilaments.

I picked C right away... but I just finished a years worth of Neuro science so thats really the only reason i got it. It has been a while though but to be honest I feel like I've had that same question multiple times in my neuro classes, but I feel this is detailed for DAT.

So is the functional unit of the skeletal muscle the same as the motor unit? Why is C correct? Thanks for your help!

the functional unit of a skeletal muscle is a motor unit, which is what C defines

A sarcomere I guess isn't the functional unit. Call it a... cellular unit? Dunno
