Hi, at my university, biochem is split into two semesters, the second one pertaining to the dreaded metabolisms. However, is the first part of biochem hard? It's about structures, amino acids, lipids, etc.

It varies from school to school and from different levels of difficulty. If you have succeeded previously in gen. chem and orgo, then you should succeed in biochem typically. Speak to students that have taken it at your school because no one here will be able to give you a real straight answer.
At my uni, its the course everyone puts off the longest. I enjoyed it and learned quite a bit, but I will say with confidence it was one of the most difficult courses I've taken.
