I'm applying this cycle and am wondering if it's advisable to take Biochem in the fall. I'm pretty solid when it comes to science but I'm somewhat concerned about having to skip classes to travel for interviews. If I'm lucky enough to get a couple of interviews and do have to miss classes, can I catch up? I've heard only hair-raising comments from people who've taken this class before, how most only get a C and such...Thoughts you guys?

It depends on what other classes you're taking and how prepared you are for the material. Interviewing can certainly be a distraction from studying, but unless you're taking a huge course load that semester, you should be able to stay current. Biochemistry isn't inherently difficult. How it's taught is what makes it hard sometimes.

I'm only taking genetics besides biochem next fall. In truth this is probably the lightest load I've even taken but I've scheduled classes this way given the anticipated distractions from writing secondaries and going to interviews. Both classes are offered on MWF. I've done some searches here on SDN and it seems interview days can fall on any day of the week. Apparently many people like to interview early in the week?

I think you'd probably be okay with taking two science classes while trying to travel to interviews, etc... The reason that most people like to interview early in the week is, of course, so that they can travel on the weekend (or at least that was my reason).

Thousands of other pre-meds will be missing time from classes to go to interviews. Many of them are taking a difficult course-load as well. It's just part of the process.

Biochem isn't cake, but if you miss a class here and there it isn't going to kill you.

If you made it this far, I'm sure you're just as capable as anyone else to make up a day or 2 of material after interviewing.
