Hi guys!

I took a biochemistry course a while ago and received a C, and this course was listed under the biology department. Now, I want to retake the course and tried to sign up for the biology department course again but it is full and they said it is not likely that I will get in. I'm doing a DIY postbacc and we pretty much get last priority in choosing courses...

So instead I registered for the chemistry department's biochemistry course. If I do well in this course, will it replace my first biochem course? I'm just concerned because the first one was under the bio dept but the current one is under the chem dept.

I want to apply this coming May to DO schools, so I can't really wait to take this retake during another semester.

Please let me know what you think, and thanks so much!!

What is the title and description of each course?

I replaced a bio labeled biochem course with a chem labeled biochem course. The first was a 3 unit course called "BIO: Structure and function of biomolecules" (this was the first in a 3 quarter series). The retake was a 4 unit course called "CHEM: General biochemistry" (also the first in a 3 quarter series). I also replaced the second part of the series and had no issues. If the course descriptions are the same/similar, it should not be a problem.

General understanding on this forum has been that retakes from the same institution must have matching course numbers and titles; people have had difficulty when departments have recoded/renamed courses and they've had to do quite a bit more legwork to get their retake accepted. May be worth considering retaking from another institution.

Thanks so much! Sorry I should have mentioned that I am taking the two courses at different institutions. Both bio and chem versions have similar descriptions and same number of credits. The first attempt was called Bio: Cell Bio and Biochemistry (the only biochem course offered at that first institution). The second (current) attempt is called Chem: Biochemistry I. Hopefully this replacement will work out.

Yeah you should be fine based on those title names and equal credits
