I noticed that some pharmacy schools that have Biochem as a pre-requisite course don't require the lab portion. I was just curious as to why.

I'm currently registered for biochem lab for the upcoming spring semester, and I was wondering if it would be beneficial to take it for pharmacy school or if I should just choose another elective.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide me.

IMO... I think you should call the school you're interested in and confirm via voice communication that they don't require lab with biochem. If this is true, then don't take it. If you consider looking good as a reason for taking the lab when it is not necessary, I say why stop there? why not take a course in a Fundamental of Aerodynamics too?

Definitely show them that you're a smart student or rather a "hard" worker.

Point: take what you have to take and don't take what you're not required to, unless you're naturally interested in the course.

But I'll really call them if I was you.

Also, schools that don't require the PCAT say that if you take the PCAT, the score will be IGNORED and will NOT be used in determining placement.

I see taking the unecessary lab the same as this scenario.

I don't even think my university has a biochem lab, maybe they do i have no clue

also what do you mean by "upcoming spring"...I'm already 3 weeks into my spring semester

Make sure it is okay with you school that you don't take the lab though. I know at my school the lab was required when taking the main course.

Yes. Take the lab because you will be thankful when you get into enzyme kinetics and anything relating to molecular biology (physiolgofy inculded).

PS if your university has no biochem lab, that is a sad university. Hopefully you intended to say "college" because any real university does research. Biochemical research is possibly the most relevant to pharmacy. That and medicinal chemistry.
