which is more helpful: reviewing biochem or physiology before med school starts this august?

I would go with biochemistry. (1). I find biochem harder than physiology. (2). I am not sure about this, but I don't think a single med school requires physiology for admission, but there are some med schools that do require biochemistry for admission. (3). Most likely, I am guessing, you will start of with biochem.

But enjoy this summer more than anything. But yes, if you have absolutely honestly nothing to do (and can't even get to sleep), than reviewing biochem won't hurt.

why not have fun...everything you would learn in a normal semester biochem undergrad class you will learn in like 1-2 weeks in med school. I personally think its a waste of time but if you do want to study you are probably the token gunner that will be in every med school so it probably wont matter what any of us say 😉. Why not just go do both in that case? You could start on gross anatomy and histology too.:meanie:

reviewing? which one was harder for you?

from what I've heard, there's really no point in reviewing anything before school starts. you're going to get slammed with it anyway, and a little review isn't going to save you a significant amount of effort.

Study biochem like 2 hours a day 5 day a week. This is almost nothing, and will not affect how much fun you have. Anyone who says otherwise might be a little too lazy!

Don't be like my 2 friends and become extremely lazy alcoholics right before med school when you have been doing so great thus far!

I think that is ridiculous...it has nothing to do with being lazy. If you like to read...enjoy a novel or read magazines. It is a WASTE of time to start reading up on material you're going to learn in a couple months time, as everyone has said so far no matter what you attempt to learn it is going to be so minute compared to what you'll actually learn. I say go have fun and do something other than brush up on biochem and physio...but thats just me

Work out, get some sun on the beach, travel. Do something completely out of shell that you haven't done before, like scuba diving or skydiving..

That will probably be the best way to spend your summer before med school. You'll be slammed with material anyhow, review or not, and what time will you have to just enjoy the finner things in life? Maybe when you're an attending will get the chance to travel again? That's just my two cents.

thanks man for the good advice. I am thinking of doing biochem this summer rather than physiology, despite the poll suggesting that I should do physiology.

seriously, enjoy your free time.

I wish i had listened to this advice last summer.
