Histone biosynthesis in most eukaryotic cell may be divided into 2 categories:
1. The synthesis that occur during S-phase of the cycle & account for total 90% of the histone protein synthesis.
2. Basal level of synthesis that occur throughout the cell cycle & insensitive to DNA synthesis inhibition.
Histone H1,core protein is synthesized predominantly in S-phase but basal level of synthesis also takes place in G1 phase.
