I am quite certain I'm going to receive a C in Biochem this semester. It is insanely challenging, and the professor does not like making his students memorize everything and his approach is more quantitative (which i HATE). I am taking all sciences at an ivy school this semester. I'm taking Microbiology, Exercise Physiology, and Abnormal Psychology (which is kind of borderline science/social science). Do you think admissions would be lenient on my C because of this course schedule, and because I am taking them at an Ivy? If not, would it be advisable to withdraw from the Biochem course and retake it in the summer or next semester? Please any suggestions would be greatly appreciated..

Edit: I know the debate on "C or W" has been done numerous times but i just think I have a more specific situation, taking many sciences in one semester

How many tests does your teacher give. I'm taking Biochem this semester and we have 4 total tests, and our third one is sometime next week. If you have another test coming up before the drop deadline, why not go ahead and take the next test and decide then? If you do poorly (or do not have any more tests before the final), and would still retain full time status (>12 credit hours), I would opt to drop the class.

I'm in a major dilemma because the last drop date is next Friday. We have two midterms and a final in this class. The lowest midterm is dropped. I did really badly on the first midterm, so I know that will be the one to drop (I am studying really hard to try my best to get a better understanding so I can do better in midterm 2). But midterm 2 doesn't come until the week before finals, way after the last drop date. So I have to decide now to withdraw or not before I can test the waters and decide how I'll do.

I'll also not be in full-time status if I end up dropping this course. I'll have 9 credit hours

Because of my workload (4 science classes) and because I'm in a tough school (ivy), would dental schools be "ok" with the C? Or W would be more advisable..

Bump, any other advices would be greatly appreciated

I'd go for the C without a doubt. That looks way better than not taking a full course load

Thanks i really needed to hear that. I'm a post-bacc btw if that makes any difference. Any other inputs would be greatly appreciated

I'm with Futbolero. Don't drop it and go under 12 credits. One C isn't going to kill you, esp. not if your GPA is good already - besides, do you really want to have to take biochem again? Lots of people that get into DS have a few C's, so dw.

That's reassuring.. But are the C's in prereq courses or just random ones

I think people get Cs in prereqs and random classes. They might ask you about it in your interviews. As long as you have a high gpa a couple of below A grades won't destroy your chances

I'm on a quarter system so all my prereqs are in 3 parts, but I got a C in all the following:
O Chem 2
Gen Chem 2
Physics 1 & 3

And then I also got W's the first time around in:
Bio 1 & 2
Gen Chem 2
O Chem 1 & 3

Despite this and the fact that I didn't even complete my application until late October (took DAT early October), I was still invited to 9 interviews, attended 4, and got into 3 schools. Don't stress it, you will be fine.

Wow you must have had something else in your application that the schools really liked! Thanks for all the input, I am definitely leaning towards busting my butt off and staying in the course!

Did you do really well for the classes you withdrew on the second time around?
