So I didnt know that Maryland required a biochem class to be considered. I already applied and they said I need the class. Are there any other schools that require this? is it even worth taking for my last semester as a senior?

Here's where I applied:

Howard University (HOW) DC

University of Maryland (MYD) MD

University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (NJDS) NJ

The Maurice H. Kornberg School of Dentistry, Temple University (TEMP) PA

West Virginia University (WVA) WV

Meharry Medical College (MEH) TN

The Ohio State University (OSU) OH

University of Pittsburgh (PITT)University of Pennsylvania

I am currently taking Biochemistry in my 1st semester of dental school. My recommendation is that, even if the school does not require it, you would benefit from taking the course. It is a lot of information, so allowing yourself a bit of exposure beforehand can help.

National Board Exam requires Biochem so its worth it to take it when you are an undergrad.

If your schools dont require it, you will have to learn it when you are in dental school.

I find it a bit strange that you applied to HOW, West VA, and MD but did not apply to VCU 🙂

Definitely take it anyway...It will make dental school that much easier as this is something that comes up over and over again and will help you in several dental school classes.👍

It seems to me most schools DO require biochem. Hmmm...Check into more😉

I also recommend to interviewees that come to my school to take anatomy if they can. It helps if you've already seen much of the body before diving into Gross during D1.

Yeah i heard Gross Anatomy is a killer. So many nerves, tissues...😀

Many schools require it, so take it. Plus it is physiologically relevant.

Also to add, do NOT take anatomy alone (its useless without cadaver lab).

If you wanna prepare yourself for DS, take a gross anatomy class WITH CADAVER LAB.

That was the biggest pre-dent mistake I ever did, I took anatomy without lab.

Agreed. One school that comes to mind that requires both is Midwestern, AZ campus. They need like 8 credits of anatomy (or something) including lab. It is not a very common requirement, but it is out there for some schools.

I think Howard does require 2 courses in Anatomy + Physiology.

VCU requires Biochem.

UMICH requires Sociology (why, why ??) and biochem of course...
