I need some advice you guys.

Can I take Biochem II without taking Biochem I? I applied for admissions for 2007 and I got some interviews. I didn't know that Biochem I is not offered at many schools for spring 2007 semester and I must complete Biochem I if I want to enter the class of 2007. I got two interiews so far at Penn and UMD so I think I have a good chance, but I need to take biochemistry course first. Do you think it's okay for me to take Biochem II without having had took bicohem I? PLEASE I NEED ADVICE.

mmm, i think this is a question better fielded by the schools you're applying to and to your university. no one on this board can tell you if you're allowed to take this course and if the schools you're applying to will accept it.

if you're asking if it's is absolutely necessary to take biochem 1 before biochem 2, then it depends. at my school biochem 1 was very intro and dealt with pH, proteins, buffers, etc etc. biochem 2 was all metabolism and was very very very tough. so, in that sense, biochem 1 really didn't help at all w/ biochem 2 since it was so different and much more difficult. but like i said, your school may better different or it may be the same.

good luck,
jb!🙂

This depends on the school you take it at as all have a slightly different curriculum and timeline for when different areas are covered. At my undergrad (Arizona State) most of the information in the second course was about metabolism, signal tranduction, and protein synthesis. If you had abit of amino acid knowledge you could do the second semster w/o the first. However the better option is that there is a lower level, but still 300 lever biochem class that was offered both fall and spring semesters that covered the whole year (biochem I and II) in one semster. It dint go into the depth that the whole year does of course but will count for taking biochem, and that is what most predents did at Arizona State. Hope that helps.

I only took Biochem II. As far as my university was concerned that was fine but I am not sure about dental schools. As far as I know most schools designate how many credits you need of each subject and not necessarily which class in the sequence you need to take. Call the schools though.
