Biochemistry Shelf

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I recommend the Rapid Reviews series Biochemistry book. The book is short (<200 pages) and there are 100 questions in the back that are exactly like the questions on the shelf exam. It's great for a quick review.

I looked at BRS also, but IMO it was too long and detailed and the questions were not representative of the actual test questions.

Kaplan biochem lectures notes, the videos and BRS biochem

does anyone have their pin number from the rapid review book that I can use? All of the bookstores around me are either sold out or don't have it (my exam is tomorrow). If you will let me use it, you can just pm me. Thanks

i took it a couple weeks ago and thought it was pretty easy

I've found that while my course followed the BRS rather closely, I understand the concepts better using Rapid Review.

Are there any question banks that y'all know of besides PreTest? All I could find online was the Biochemistry GRE practice exam, and I'm not sure how similar the questions would be.

I just took it last week. Still waiting on scores. I also used Rapid review series. It helps a lot.

I used BRS to study for the Biochemistry Shelf Exam, but during the test, I felt like I wasn't very well prepared. My complaint with BRS is that while the questions did try to tie in clinical scenarios, the style of questioning was different from the clinical questions I had during the Shelf.

I was wondering, for those of you who used Rapid Review, did it work out better? I'm trying to find a good resource for the future. After a search, it seems like RR and the Kaplan book are the good ones. Has anyone tried Deja Review Biochemistry?

I was thinking about picking up the BRS book, but I took a look at it on amazon and some of the reviews mentioned that it quite a few mistakes... thoughts on that?

Any thoughts on the PreTest series?

I've also used PreTest before exams to get myself in the mindset of answering questions. Often, I feel that I know the material thoroughly, can explain it to others, but still have trouble answering questions on exams because of the phrasing. The PreTest books help me with that.
