Hey all, i would really appreciate your clarification on a question .

my school offers a course in biogeochemistry ( the syllabus states that the course is on the biological controls on the chemistry of the environment and how geochemistry affects ecology)

would you classify this course as a BCPM science class or would it be better to classify as a natural science/all other? im curious because this course is cross listed in both the environmental and bio department at my school and am thus confused . the course was more environmental science as well with less pure science (the carbon and nitrogen cycle were the most sciency things done)

your clarification would be appreciated. thank you!

If it is in the department of chemistry or biology then yes.

You classify it based on what >50% of the course was based on. Not what department it's listed under. If you feel like it was >50% biology, then do it. If you felt it was mostly natural science, do that.

Just keep in mind that no AMCAS person would overturn it either way, so do what benefits you the most 😉

it was offered in both the bio and environmental studies department; however, on my transcript, its under bio

i guess ill just put it as a natural science as the course was more environemntal science than anything. i am just confused since it is offered through the bio department.;

does amcas generally classify all bio classes as bcpm irrespective of content? (ex if an environmental science class like biogeochemistry is offered in the bio dept, etc?)

NASA is about to do the coolest biogeochemistry on Mars in search for life; I can't wait for this, a nuclear powered rover just sounds so cool...

And I tend to liken geology as a sort of chemistry, so I would classify it under that. In the end it's up to you.

They probably won't debate that it's a BCPM class if it's actually in the biology department.
