I have one empty spot in my schedule for next semester, and since I am a non-science major I was hoping to take a class that might prepare me for medical school. Would taking Biological Chemistry be something useful? Thanks

Well its offered through the Biology department, and there is a Biochemistry class offered through the Chemistry department. The course description is:

"This course is designed to introduce biology and biochemistry majors to the subject [Biological Chemistry] with an emphasis on understanding the biochemical principals that are crucial to biological function at the molecular, cellular, and organismal levels. The material includes: (1) the structure and chemistry of biomolecules, including amino acids, proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, and nucleic acids; (2) the key metabolic pathways and enzymology involved in the synthesis/degradation of carbohydrates; and (3) the cycling of energy through biological systems. Reference will be made to alterations in biochemical structures, processes, and pathways that relate to specific diseases."

I want to take Anatomy and Physiology but at my school the class is reserved for nursing students and I can only take it if there's any room left.

it is really up to you- we cover all our biochem in medical school in about 3-4 weeks. Individuals who had biochem aren't having to working as hard during these weeks but I am not sure if it is worth suffering through a semester to have an easier 3 weeks or so.

Wouldn't you think it can be an advantage at least for the MCAT? And at least to be accustomed to the biochem?

Biological chemistry, biochemistry, and chemical biology are all the same pretty much.

It sounds as though it is baby biochem. It would definitely help you for medical school by introducing concepts that you will be covering again in med school. It won't help much for MCAT though. Not much biochem there. Better to take anatomy and/or physiology because those are covered on the MCAT and will also help you in medical school.
