So I have a pretty urgent dilemma right now. I have an interview scheduled for Wednesday and my lips are bleeding. I got cold sores last week and although the viral infection is gone now, I'm suffering from the scars of the lesions. It's all dried blood right now but like a healing wound on like the joint of the finger, it's hard to keep it from bleeding because even moving my mouth to talk at times or smiling (especially big smiles) causes the dried blood to crack and I start bleeding again (not to mention that it's actually kinda painful too~). I'm wondering if I should call the admissions committee an explain to them my situation and hopefully have my interview pushed back because not only does it look like I got punched across the face, I sometimes twitch when the wound suddenly ruptures again. What should I do? Would you go to an interview on Wednesday if you were me? I'm a bit worried because if I call the tomorrow morning, that's only one day before my interview day and I'm worried that they'll be annoyed and leave a bad note on my file. I do know that if I do go, I'll be explaining this wound to almost everyone I meet (which I have been doing for the past week) and won't be performing at my peak because of this wound.

yah had the same problem on one my interviews... i jsut went and acted confident and acted like it diidnt bother me... noone said anything.. good luck

you can reschedule, i think they will be understanding as healthcare professionals that people do get sick. they wouldnt want you to spread herp i mean cold sores all over. jk

or that. its really up to you and your comfort level. they will understand you being sick

Its getting late to reschedule isn't it? (I'm in Texas so I'm ignorant to other states). I wouldn't worry about it, just use some chap stick to keep your lips from drying out and do the damn thang.

You can swallow a pint of blood before you get sick.

i think it depends on your level of comfort and the feasibility of rescheduling.

honestly, sometimes we think everyone notices something facially when most people don't. i sometimes get these same sores and the healing/bleeding is embarrassing to me as well. aquaphor works awesome to prevent cracking and bleeding. keep it moisturized.

i just had an interview after i got over a cold. my poor nose was raw from all the tissues. it was red, peeling, and kinda gross. some cover girl and confidence - no one said a thing.

I wouldn't reschedule, but that's just me. I did an entire interview day with no voice. That was an experience. I got in and got offered a scholarship already from them. They understand that these things happen, so just be confident. I'd much rather do that than take the chance of pissing them off by rescheduling. That's an interview spot they won't be able to fill, and if I were them, I wouldn't be happy about it.

Yeah, your best bet is to go unless its really bad.

Clearly you've never seen Twilight. 😉

Sounds pretty bad OP. I think the major disadvantage is the hit to your confidence. I don't think it'd really be a big deal to the ADCOM. But you not feeling confident definitely would (though you'd probably get a bit of sympathy and understanding for your situation). I'd say: depending on your school, if it's not too late, reschedule. If it IS too late, then just go for it...tough it out -- they should be sympathetic and understanding. Although it's not good to make things up, perhaps there's some combination of gauze / bandages that could make it less of a problem? Did the doctor give you anything special for it? When I had super dry cracking skin the dermatologist gave me some special cream that seemed to fix it up really quickly (it was prescription...can't remember the name atm). Maybe you could ask the doc if there's anything he knows of to help you out.

Anyway...good vibes and best of luck. Just keep your head up and stay confident.

I say just make a joke about it to the interviewer when they ask how you are doing today at the beginning of the interview. Get it out in the open, be done with it, then dont think about it again. It's not like they've never seen it before.

No kissing random people before interviews!!! Haha. Now it's time to suck it up and ask your mom or sister for some make-up tips!

I wouldn't mention it... you'll put the spot light on something they may not even really notice.

OP, go to the interview.. things happen. I had really bad razor burn at my first interview because I wasn't used to the disposable razor I brought w me because of the airline. It was very noticeable, but I did not mention it and neither did anyone else. I got in.

IDK, I notice everything, and I'd probably be more likely to stare if nothing was said. Like Boy Meets World guy in Austin Powers 3 with the mole. But you're right, you could just ignore it completely. Without seeing it I cant actually say how noticable it would be.

Hey all, thanks for the inputs..I have actually decided to go to the interview..i'm pretty sure they're going to ask. It's not something that can be easily covered with make-up and it covers half of my upper lip, so it's not something that they're not going to notice. But if they ask, I'll be straightforward about it and just say what happened. It's definitely healing relatively fast. The scars will still be present on the day of my interview - that wasn't my major concern of wanting to push it back. Feeling pain while talking and smiling was my primary concern - but that too is getting better and with two more nights for the wound to close up, I'm praying that by Wed. morning, I won't feel anymore pain when I talk.

i feel your pain! cold sores are the worst. good luck at your interview! :luck:

I had facial surgery a week before my first interview. One side of my face was still pretty swollen and droopy, and I had stitches in my mouth (I was also on lortabs the entire interview day because it still hurt like crazy). I made a joke about it at the beginning of the interview because it was difficult to smile as well as talk without slurring. The interviewer laughed and it set a good tone for the rest of the interview. I think it really helped break the ice.

I felt better getting it out in the open at the beginning. Otherwise I would be too busy worrying about whether he thought I had some kind of palsy the entire interview to answer his questions thoroughly.

See, this is why you wrap it up.

-sigh-

But good luck!

You should make your lips bleed as much as possible and then go in and act like nothing at all is up. You will look super badass.

Cold sores suck, I get them too. I've never had them that bad though; that sounds miserable.

I think you'd be fine either way; but IMHO if it's bothering you this much it could very well affect your level of confidence, which would probably make a bigger difference for interviews than having cold sores. I know when I have stuff like that going on it's kinda hard for me to just not think about it. But that's just me. Good luck!
