:scared:

Someone plzzzzzzzzzzz tell me there's a big curve to today's exam.

They need to get some new people to write test questions. It was ridiculous. I had 3 questions on base wedge osteotomies - no lapidus questions. Look, I understand there is a time and place to use it, and yes I know I am just a student, but I have seen a lot of procedures this year on clerkships. Guess how many opening base wedges I have seen. 0. Thats how many.

^Exactly my thinking for half the questions. How did your classmates feel about it?

Im sure you guys did well. The threads after part I are always panic mode but in the the end most people pass.

Any advice while its fresh in your mind for next years test takers would be greatly appreciated.

Good luck!

I had a bunch of heart murmur stuff - 3 of first 10. Really seemed out of place. Surprised at how much central and peripheral nerve disorder related stuff there was. Very minimal - as in 2 of 205 questions on antibiotic coverage. Both very easy questions too. Lots of medicine questions related to hypertension and respiratory pathologies. 5 to 7 classifications only one of which was 2nd order. 5 or so AO technique questions, 5 or so straight up anatomy questions. Lots of questions that seemed way more preference based - there was one related to fracture blisters and whether you deroof it, aspirate it or leave it alone. In the end, I know I passed, the numbers and percentages are on my side. I have bigger fish to fry - need to find somebody that wants me for residency next week at interviews.

And also surprised at the number of gait, orthotic and pediatric based questions. I was ready for the basics, not some of the stuff they asked.

So to sum it up, as well as talking with 7 or so of my classmates --- nobody feels that it in any way tested their knowledge as a 4th year student or what they should know in this day and age. But hey, thats just the way these tests go.

How do you know the numbers and percentages work in your favor?

because this year and every year at DMU 1 or 2 out of 50 people fail part 2 (or 1 for that matter). Usually nobody is surprised when they found out who failed (usually). I have also done pretty well in school....so I like my chances. But yes, I feel like I failed it. And yes, stranger things have happened. But like I said, I am more concerned with interviews next week.

yea the test had alot of preference vs. evidence based questions.

I understand there was multiple versions of the test. Did everyone with different tests feel like it was hard?

What study materials do you recommend (if any)? Is the Pearls podiatry board review worthwhile?

maybe, I guess? Assuming I passed, I would say there is nothing specific to cover except some stuff over anesthesia, x-ray production, ethics/law and epidemiology. Don't bother studying medicine, like finding a needle in a haystack. Everything else gets covered while you study for interviews.

Sounds like we had the exact same test Air bud. It looked like a cardiology exam at the beginning -pretty simple questions though.

I thought that 50% of the test was very easy -straight out of pocket podiatry. The other half was okay, not as bad as Part 1. And of course the ******ed questions that nobody has ever heard of.

We had some fantastic board prep classes at Western during the month of December that helped huge!! All I can say is that Dr Christman is the man!!

I'm glad it is over and now I'm getting ready to get killed at interviews!

Scores came out today. 89% pass rate here at KSUCPM, pretty impressed/surprised with that number actually.

Passed. Sweet. Here is to minimal competency....

Is that 89 percent from the dean? I thought your dean doesnt like to announce board scores, or is that a thing of the past now with the merger?

Congrats.

That is from our director of clinical affairs. I don't really know about the policy of announcing results. Maybe he doesn't publicly advertise it, but all of the students typically know what it is.

Last year's class had a pass rate of around 74% I believe. Needless to say, the school was pissed and started making us attend hour-long CPC's before clinic everyday that we were not out on externships...I guess it worked.

I am a student at KSUCPM and its my opinion that you think for a moment that the CPCs helped at all increase the pass rate (which I cannot confirm, as I have not heard any mention of overall pass rate for our school) then, no offense, you are sorely mistaken. These time wasting meetings disguised as a CPC are a joke and are put on by barely qualified physicians. I undertand that some learn differently so this may be different for you but I attribute my passing score to diligent, focused, high yield studying nothing else and certainly not due to the unfocused curriculum of Kent.

Well if the all knowing dtrack says it was 84%, then I can't wait for everybody on here to say what their school's pass rate is (above 84% of course). DMU's policy is to not announce pass rates until after the 2nd offering scores have been received.

I could be wrong...but my sources are pretty solid 😉

Oh I believe you. I just am not going to believe the numbers and sources of many people that will post on here.

I actually heard that the national pass rate was 79%.

Did anyone retake the test on feb 20? If yea, then was it harder or easier than the 1st time around?

As is customary at DMU, board scores are not released to students until after the 2nd attempt.
We received an email from the Dean today w/ Part 2 pass rates:

First time - 93% (42/25)

2nd time - 100%

sooooooooo 2nd test is scored, early match please?

First time for NYCPM was 89%. That works out to 66/74, so the 8 retesters all successfully passed. This is our first 100% on part 2 in recent years, I'm proud of my class!

At Scholl the first time pass rate was 85%, after the second exam the overall pass rate was 98%. So, there are 2-3 people in our class that didn't pass the retake.

The AACPM and NBPME do not calculate a 2nd time pass rate since there is a 3rd offering after the match. The overall pass rate that you'll get will include all 3 test dates.

What is typically done, and the reason we can say 90% traditionally pass after the 2nd administration of part II, is someone gets the final CASPR data right after the match and works backwards. The difference between the 568 applicants from the class of 2013 and the number given after the match is finished is, for the most part, entirely made up of individuals who didn't pass the second time around. From there it's simple division.

Long story short, no. Anyone who tells you otherwise is probably wrong. What I have heard is that it will be higher than 90% but nobody knows for sure. It's all speculation based on the schools that share that info. Which doesn't account for over 30% of the total student population...

At KSUCPM the first time pass rate was 89%, after the second exam the overall pass rate was 99%. So, there's 1 person in our class that didn't pass the retake. However, I heard that everyone passed, so there might be minor confusion. Either way it's going to be a tight match.

So far we have:

DMU 100% pass rate
NYCPM 100% pass rate
SCPM. 98% pass rate
KSUCPM 100% pass rate
Barry?
Temple?
Western?
OCPM?
AZPOD?

Still that's way better than previous years. Now that we students are doing our job, let's hope the gods of pod are doing theirs...

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but there will be a shortage for the class of 2013 tomorrow. If you or someone you knows scrambles, don't sit around and wait to contact and visit programs with available seats. Even though there should be a surplus next year, I would be doing whatever I needed to do not to have to re-apply in 2014.

I will not post numbers so don't ask. They should be public tomorrow. A few others can confirm that they are worse than expected.

That's quite terrifying.

How do you know that there is going to be a surplus next year?

People been complaining about low board pass rates. You know who they are. Looks like the National Board gave you what you wanted. Going to be an ugly day on Wednesday.

The passing standard for the APMLE Part 2 exam has not changed.

Based on our class size, programs I know that temporarily decreased seats as mandated by their hospitals due to speculation about funding, and the number of new programs that have either began or completed the CPME 309 documents.

Do I "know"? No. Just like anyone else, I'm speculating or projecting based the most recent data, and data that I know is accurate. A lot can happen between now and next year with these potential spots, especially with the current federal funding climate. And let's not forget I've been wrong before (see: my post a week ago where my comments based off a traditional part II pass rate turned out to be wrong).

I'm simply doing my best to give the students who read these forums the most up to date and accurate info I can. I hope people find it at least somewhat informative/helpful.
