anyone doing that board test thingamjigwhatchamacallit tomorrow? sounds pretty lame to me, might show up for a few and check it out though

good luck to you my friend, if you do not know the anwer to a question, its Melazesesia Furfur, always.

First aid was completely worthless. Wish I would have just used my class notes. Instead I only used first aid and had to rely on my memory from 6 months ago

Probably knew 50% and guessed on 50%. Seemed like a completely pointless test but thars the way the cookie crrumbles.

Hmmm, this thread already reminds me a lot of our thread from last year: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=745150&highlight=boards .
Best of luck, I completely thought I failed and left already thinking about what I needed to do to register for the October boards, and lo and behold, I actually passed! I agree, First Aid wasn't very helpful.

there were some short q's and some USMLE style questions (an 8 y/o kid got stuck by a needle and is dying, what does he have? kinda question) and a lot of Parathytoid Hormone and neurologic pathways.

What got me is that i calculated 1 min/question and when i got to the las 20 questions with 12 mins left, they were ALL questions that had more than one answer to them which takes double the thinking time, so i rushed through them got many wrong, and left 2 questions blank cause the stupid clock got down to 0 when I was on Q203.

Study your notes, what your professors say is important WILL be on that test.

I could not agree more. This test focused on if you were paying attention to the details. First aid was pretty useless. If you kept your class notes, you should be fine reviewing them. Know your basics and know them cold.

1st aid failed me today. I am pretty sure I guessed most questions. But i think lower was ok. Overall this is one crazy a&$ exam!!!!

Hello everyone,

Great job to all of us on completing this exam! Although the First Aid might seem useless, there really is no right way to go about studying without. Consider it like a backbone and add to it what you thought was imp from your school's board review sessions and omit the extra stuff that was never emphasized in class. All in all, if you pay attention throughout your pod years and try to understand main concepts along with the cramming that we are forced to do, you should be fine.

I am not surprised that APMLE Part 1 is harder this year compared to the former NBPME Part 1 in 2010 and previous years. Podiatry is evolving: part of that evolution is making podiatry students think harder....1st aid book is a great study aid if not the best one for Part 1 boards. I used it and handled Part 1 well, guessing about 30% of the questions. Yeah....July 2010! That was roughly 3 hours and 30 minutes of stress.

NOW YOU ALL NATIONWIDE FROM EVERY PODIATRY SCHOOL, Class of 2013! GET DRUNK AND PARTY!

USMLE and the NBPME questions are totally different, and are tailored to a specific student. USMLE questions are passage based, the NBPME are stand alone questions.

FA teaches you to recognize patterns, buzz words, etc., to narrow down your answer choices when you're given a passage and 5 answer choices so that the correct answer can be deduced. They [First-Aid] leave the minute details to you to study, which is good if you're taking the USMLE, but 99% of the NBPME were basic, stand alone question/answer you couldn't answer if you studied FA alone because the stems aren't giving you the info you need to pick the right answer.

Ever wonder why, after studying FA and taking the test, people come here to complain about how "random" and "specific" the test was? Chances are if you asked how they prepared they will say FA; the whole time they were studying from a book that does not emphasize the specifics (even the basic stuff).

I'm glad you passed, but when your best advice is "randomly" pick a place to start studying and use a review book that doesn't emphasize the basics of what you're being tested on, you can begin to see where the problem lies.

My advice to 2nd years now would be to use FA as a reference, as it has some good mneumonics for micro/pharm but DO NOT use it as your main source.

NBPME reads more like a class exam, so use your class notes and BRS.

Note: I did pass step 1 in July and in the top 20% of my class, just so you know I'm not talking out my butt.

Congrats to those who took my advice last year.

isn't it funny how professors tell you for boards to focus on the big picture concepts ...then on the test there are all these small detail questions? How else did ppl think of the test?
