Bombed Verbal...Doomed?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'd accept you if i was an adcom

I rlly don't know, I know some schools screen out if any section is under an 8. But I only have seen that info on certain schools in the MSAR so idk?

You will still get secondaries because many schools don't screen your stats at that point, and application fees are a big money maker for them. A verbal of 7 means you are unlikely to get an allopathic acceptance (unless your parents reside south of I-80, in which case maybe SIU would consider you). If you think the score was a fluke because you did much better on your practice tests, then just retake the test ASAP as studying may not make a difference. If verbal has been an ongoing problem, you have no choice but to study. Consider giving up the Loyola gig if you won't have any time to study, unless you don't mind waiting another year to apply. I say this because applying late often means your application won't receive much attention.

I think Mobius is right. I don't know if I'd give up the internship though. I think you might have to just accept that you'll be applying again next year. There's no reason not to try at a few schools, including your state schools, but I think the 7 may be a deal breaker. You may want to try for schools that take people w/lower MCAT averages.

Considering each secondary will be like $50 to $100 per pop, I'd wait to send the secondaries in until you know if you have any real chance (after you know the new score). Unless money is no object for you. You could have all the secondaries completed and ready to go by the expected date of score release so you are complete ASAP. You could also apply to only one school when you submit to AMCAS so your transcripts are certified. Add and pay for additional schools if you decide to continue with the application process once you know your score (all new schools get the entire application within one business day, as you are already certified). You can still get the secondary essays all written from prompts you'll see here on SDN, so your turnaround time is minimal.
